G35 6MT break-in question

Hey Everyone,

As I wait patiently on my now 6 days delayed 6mt (Grrrr)
I was wondering..

I have a road trip planned next week, about 400 miles each way,
and wanted to know if that would be ideal for breaking in my G?
I don't want to screw it up, but I figured, a long trip would be
great to break it in?

Should I not do this? Anyone know if there's reasons not to?

Thanks!
J.

redline each gear about 2-3 times or take it slow under 3.5k RPM

If it's leased, then who gives a crap...if you bought it, then good luck trying to keep it under 3.5 RPMs for 1500 miles...

The owner's manual says that going at constant speed, using cruise control, etc. isn't good during break-in cause you have to vary your RPM, but many many of us have spent the entire break-in on the highway at pretty much constant speed and our cars are running just fine.. don't sweat it too much. On the positive side you'll be done with break-in really quick as opposed to people like me who took 2 months to break the car in... that was a long torture

here's a good question....why name yourself "G35 newbie 2005"? If you continue to post on this board, which most people do who love their car, you won't be a newb and be regretting this name.

a break-in period goes for the tranny as well as the motor.. its basically to seal the rings for the motor and wear down the new parts.. if you want to do this correctly.. there is actually a pretty complicated step to breaking an engine in..

A good way to break in is to do hard full throttle pulls from each gear once or twice.. now before you flame tell me whats wrong with this method before you do..

go on a clear high way and do some pulls from 1st - 6th.. (kinda hard on 6th but yeah thats generally the idea) then head back.. let the engine cool and change the oil that'll complete the first part of your break in. After a few 100miles you'll also want to do a tranny oil change.. metal chips applies to the tranny too..

no point in driving like my grandma IMO.. unless someone can prove me wrong..

Oil changes should be done with regular motor oil (not semi or full syn).
