Buy a late 05 or early 06?
Wait. 06 will have more than the 05. The only real risk is timing. If you have something to drive and can wait, WAIT. It is really late in the model year for the 05's. Within a month of your 05 hitting the floor, it will be considered "1 Year Old". Granted, this happens every year. But I think 1 to 2 months is worth the wait. Good Luck.

It's really not a matter of getting what I want right now or waiting 5 months for the newer version. It's a matter of waiting 3 months or waiting 5 months. I keep my cars for a long time and I'm thinking I'd be better off 8 years from now having an 06 versus an 05. It's also not a matter of getting a great deal on an 05. My dealer is going to hook me up either way ($500 over invoice). However, if my dealer tells me I'd have to wait until December or January to get what I want on an 06 I would definitely jump on the 05 (I'm patient, but not that patient). My current car (an '88 300zx that I rebuilt) will get me where I need to be, so it's not like I need a new car. I just want one.
Thanks for all the input, guys.

.
As far as the intelligent key, I believe it was not offered on the coupe because of the issues with the 6MT and having to depress the clutch to start the engine. While only 10% of coupes are 6MT, the percentage of sedans with 6MT is far less, so Infiniti went ahead with the intelligent key in the 4-door version. I really don't see this changing for 2006, but we'll see. There is a thread on this about 200 posts ago, if you want to search back that far.
As far as information from the local dealer, I think you can put what the dealer says in one hand and **** in the other and see which fills up first. I wouldn't believe a word those guys tell you. Until the info is released from Nissan Motors or Infinit in an official statement, it's just an unfounded rumor or an educated guess based on previous patterns.

As far as the delay in the 2006 6MT, that's what happened last year with the '05's and now a precident has been set. I don't think they will change that precident, even though it was different in '03 and '04.
In my area, you couldn't get a 2005 out the door until November, 2005. The 6MTs first arrived in January, 2006. My dealership had pre-sold its January and February deliverys of the MTs before December. I ordered mine in early February, and received in late March. That car was ordered but cancelled by a different customer, so I jumped in line.
You could, however, buy an AT off the lot in November. Not many were pre-ordered.

Ok well I have a couple of questions. I dont own a coupe yet but I will be getting one before the year ends. I am a recent graduate ( walked yesterday in fact
) and I start working in July. I was planning on holding out till september/october to get a really good deal on the 05 (dont really care about an 06). What do you guys advise?? Is that too late to get an 05? Or should I order one in july/august. Also about ordering....I am not familar with the process, having bought all my cars off the lot. Do you put down a deposit and negotiate the price when the car comes in a few months later, or is the price finalised at the time of ordering? Thanks in advance for the newb questions.

Ordering is what you do when they don't have the car on the lot that you want. ATs are comparatively easy to find in the color combo that you want, with the features that you want. MTs are much more difficult to locate.
To get the best deal, you should buy a car off the lot. Dealers vastly prefer to sell you a car on hand than one on order. Your leverage is much better for them. The question is how picky you are going to be. Are you flexible in colors? Options? If so, you can save considerable sums.

I believe reading somewhere the last of the 05 orders will be in June. If you wait until July/August, you will either have to choose from the litter of 05's on the lot, 05's on the way to the lots (already ordered) or wait for a 2006. If a specific price is desired, you will be at the mercy of the inventory at the local dealerships. Good news is you will be able to buy an 05 for a few more months. Once the 06's roll out to the dealerships, they will return whatever inventory they have of any unsold 05's. On orders, details are negotiated once a deposit is made. Granted your car arrives with all your desired options detailed on the order, then it's set. I believe the deposits are also fully refundable so make sure you give yourself an OUT in the event you have a change of heart. Good Luck!
