Buy a late 05 or early 06?

I'm in the process of buying my first G35 Coupe. It appears that in order to get the exact car I want I will have to order it. That means it will be August before I get it. From what I hear, June is the last production month for the 05's which would mean I would have one of the youngest 05's out there. Speculation is that the 06's should be hitting our shores in October. Since I have to place my order anyway, should I just wait the extra months and get the 06? The dealer says that no info has been released on the 06 so its possible Infiniti might up the price. Even so, I can't help but think I'd be better off in the long run to wait and get the first 06 versus the last 05. The wait is going to kill me either way.

As far as getting the '06, I'm always in favor of getting the newest version of a product available. However, I think October is too early to think the '06's will be available. I'm guessing late November to early December is going to be much more realistic. And you have to remember that the 6MT's will come out 2 to 3 months after the 5AT. If you're getting the Auto, not so important, but I'll bet the manuals aren't out for '06 until 2006.

For Lightforce, the 6MT comes standard with the sport tuned suspension package, meaning that the "performance tire and wheel" package is not available (this package is a downgrade from the STS setup anyway.)

Though I probably did pay too much for my September 2003 purchase of a 2004 G35, I was surprised that they didn't start negotiation at list. Especially since it had to be traded with an out of state dealer.

Since it WAS a brand new car, and they had only started selling it that month, I went in with a number I didn't want to go over, and they gave me a quote significantly below that.

So, it may not be too bad on pricing for 2006, unless Yen appreciation leads to a significant price increase.

Since the 2005 was the significant upgrade, 2006 will probably be more like the 2003-2004 change.

Why do you think it will be so late? The 2004's came out earlier (except for the new G35X).

New on the '06 coupe should be smart key (keyless entry/start), same as the 05 sedan. For some reason they kept it to offer something new for the 06 coupe other than the 18hp increase. (on '05 6mt). Also, consider the talk of the '07 gt-r release...may want to hold off another year, just incase. good luck in your decision.

You know every year there will be a new model out, you will have to make a purchase somewhere. With that said if you are going to wait for the coupe 6mt then you might as well wait till next year. Just like the 2005 the car was delay. I just made the purchase of the 2005 black coupe 6mt and will get it at the end of the month. My thinking is drive this car for 3 - 4 years and get the 2nd generation GTR.

How sure are you about this? I just ordered an 05 and should be getting it soon. I REALLLLLLY want the intelligent key though, and might wait it out. Where did you get that info?

50 % at best, info came from local dealer...makes sense though seeing as it is in the sedans for this year, why not hold it for the coupes to spur sales in '06?
