$12,000 in damage HELP

To make a long story short a old lady blew a red and my girl had to run into her, totally F%#$ing up the front end of her not even 1 year old 04 G. There is about $12,000 in damage with labor costs. My question to all of you is at what dollar amount is the G totaled (because it is NOT totaled)? Should she be seeking some other compensation ( besides the cost of the repairs) like an extended warranty from the old ladys insurance? Also, what should we be double checking when we go pick it up?

Thanks

well for one thing her car will never be the same (at least feeling wise). and our Gs are worth more then $12k so ur insurance will just repair it.. were any of you injured? you should get a loner while u wait for the car to be repaired.. other then that there isnt much you can do

1 - you are very unlikely to get anything other than repairs and medical coverage from the other driver's insurance. It's just not the way insurance works.

2 - Make sure the repairs are done using genuine nissan parts and not off-brand parts. This will be hard to do, but make sure you get the paperwork used to order your materials and have parts bounce the part numbers. If it isn't the way you want it make your insurance company aware of it and let them know you're not satisfied.

3 - Other members here have talked about getting the at-fault driver's insurance company to spring for what's called 'diminished value.' It's to compensate the not-at-fault driver for the diminished value of their car once the repairs are completed. It's something you can shoot for, but it's also something that's very rarely awarded.

4 - Agree with above about the car never being the same. I have yet to keep a car that's been in an accident - it gets traded as soon as the paint has cured. It's not so much the performance of the car, it's the emotional attachment - mentally the car will never be right again - paint flaws, new creaks and groans, uneven tire wear - it's always something.

Sorry to hear about the wreck and good luck on the repairs. It's never any fun..

Thanks for all the advice. No one was severly injured thank God. I guess we will try to go for the diminished value thing and hope for the best. A trade in might be in order (not sure yet). Infiniti is repairing it and I will do my best to double check parts. Anyone else with any more input? Thanks again and keep your fingers crossed for us.

you have to check with your insurance company all insurence companys are different in ditermening if a car is totaled. a sertain percentage of the price of the car must be damaged if im not mistakeing its anyware from 60 to 85 percent of the retail price must be damaged for it to be totaled

is there frame damage? if there is, most insurance companies will just pay you what they value the car at.

4 times... wo-wo-wo-wo.... that's just rong, rong, rong, rong.

What I recommend is that you ignore most of what was said above and take the G to a good body shop. A good body shop can take a car that is within inches of being 100% destroyed and make it perfect again.

$12K is only 33% of the price of a new G, no way any insurance company would total your car...

This is correct I had an Acura Integra GSR that Progressive wanted to fix!! Their original estimate was like $17500 to repair, and they said I needed around $19500 to total it??? I called my friend who owned a repair shop that has the contract w/ the local Ferrari dealer and he told me, but they made that estimate without putting it on a lift??? This car could have $3-5000 in supplemtal repair costs!!! So he had it towed to his shop, and called the adjuster to come back out, and their new total was $21000!!! Thank GOD for my friend or I would have got screwed!!! Remember there will be supplemental repairs when they are finished...alignment or uneven tire wear down the road, etc. so be a real pain in their azz!!!!
