Rattle from down under

Ok I know there is a different sound when the clutch is depressed but lately I have noticed a rattle when the car is idling and the clutch is not pressed in. It's a pretty blatent rattle like something is loose and other people have noticed it. Once I push the clutch in it goes away. I dont remember if it was there when I bought the car and I did bottom out once but it wasn't that bad. Does anyone else hear this rattle from under the car or did I mess something up. Probably would be eaiser to just look under the car but she's so dam low (not that thats a bad thing of course). Also has anyone else bottomed out and broken anything B4? Thanx for your input.

Re: Rattle from down under

I have read several posts about similiar sounds with the clutch pedal out. Mine does the same thing but only after the car gets hot from driving or I drive real hard. I asked someone in the service dept at my infiniti dealership and they said it was common on cars with high performance trannies. He called it clutch clatter and said it was normal to a degree. I don't know about this so I am gonna ask when it is in for service on thursday. One interesting fact thought about it is when I was considering the late model Toyota Supra Twin Turbo. I had looked at several used ones last year. On a couple of them that I looked at I heard a similiar sound when I started the car (all of them 6 speeds). The owners all told me a similiat story about their cars and the clutch rattle when it was new as well. Dunno if that helps but I will post the response they give me when it's in for service on thursday if I remember. Peace.

Watch it with that rattling....Now the dealership may say that if your clutch goes out that it may be your fault......How many miles do you have on your car???? I had that problem and my clutch went out.............The dealership may say that it is abuse. Make sure. Take it back and let them really check it out....

Have about 7000 miles on the car. I am a manual tranny master. If the dealer tried to say it was me I'd shut that down REAL quick. I have been driving stick for years and know what abuse is. I treat this one like the lady she is. We'll see when I take it to the dealer Thurs. Peace.

Yup same here, I am the Clutch Master. I only drive manuals and trust me I dont abuse this baby. I have around 2500 miles on her and I've never burnt the clutch and only grinded twice but very light though nothing serious. please let us know what they say when you bring her in.
