Time for an oil change

I am getting my first oil change, and am wondering what grade of oil I need to get. Is synthetic really worth it or is the stadard stuff ok?

Thanks

I use 5W30 synthetic.. it's worth it to me, but the regular dino is fine too.

I just did my oil change, too, and I switched from 5w30 Pennzoil dino to 10w30 Havoline for the summer. The Havoline made my engine feel much better, perhaps due to the loads of Moly helping to lower friction. It revs much easier and pulls better down low than with the Pennzoil. If you're going with dino, definitely give Havoline a try.

AMSOIL user here for the past 5 yrs runing on my last 2 cars. I'm using 5w30 On my 2 G's and on my previous Prelude track car. I change oil every 5k miles it can easily go to 7.5k+

I think its not necessary to switch to thicker oil for summer. Unless you planing on runing hard and expecting hot temp days. Current synthetic oil has advanced enough to withstand sumer temps and occasional track days with no problems.

I'd definitely recommend Mobile 1 Syn. I used it exclusively in the Supra TT. It's good, decently priced, and can be found at the local walmart for $20/gallon.

There's no need to go to 10w30 unless you are going to be in extremely hot weather. I used 15w50 once in the Supra and it honestly didn't make much of a difference and in fact, felt a tad slower.

actually i seen test lab results that stated that MOBILE is good for the price but stuff like AMSOIL and REDLINE and ROYAL PURPLE is a tad better.

I pay a few dollars more for amsoil and had oil tested after 6k miles and then had mobil tested they said that amsoil did better in my car.
One thing about amsoil that i hate... is that they dont sell it in store in my area.

I was referring to dino oils. With a quality synthetic I agree there is no need to change grade for the summer, but my experience with the VQ has been that it beats up the 5w30 dino and thins it out very quickly in hot summer conditions. The 5w30 pennzoil I was using did fine in the winter but created alot of valvetrain noise toward the end of my OCI, probably because it was a 20wt by that time. The 10w30 dino should, hopefully, hold up better (fingers crossed as this is my 1st run with 10w30) and my engine seems to like this Havoline

This may sound like a total waste of money (but I'm extremely ****).

I use the Mobile 1 0W-40, but I still change it every 3,000-3,500 miles.

It should hold up any almost any condition for at least that long. I'm in Dallas and lord knows it gets hot down here.

I go with the thinnest oil with the highest heat rating.

If you don't worry about the cost of oil, that's what I would do.

If you drive it hard like me, go synthetic. I use Royal Purple, but it's expensive as heck. I pay close to $6 a quart. 5w30. This way you can rev her up pretty darn high and not have to worry so much. If you drive like a grandma, use a good conventional oil.

Oh, and use a wix filter. Studies have shown they break down the least. They're at Napa's, most CarQuests, and at Walmart.
