The G is NOT a tough car

Six weeks old, 2100 on the odometer, no tailgating, and yet I have a huge ding to my front grill today (definitely a stone) which has gone right down to the plastic right next to the emblem, and an 8" crack in my windshield from a small stone.

This is on top of a rash in the clearcoat on my right wing - loads of tiny spots in the clearcoat - which the dealer assures me must have been caused by something "...thrown up by the tires" at around 200 miles.

I am really disappointed in the resilience of the finishes on a $39k car.

sucks man, only 2100 miles and you got all that damage...
sorry, but yeah we are all pissed at the poor quality in the paint, esp. on the front bumper and hood, after 1 month i got 3 major paint chips in my hood, im seriously thinking of buying a new hood for future swap...

Thanks. Still thinking about that - hood and bumper are still fairly OK.

Not a tough car in THAT aspect, but watch how much it fares in an accident my friend.

I agree from what I have read on here about accidents.

Anyone know how to touch-up plastic "chrome"?

I understand small things like that are extremely annoying and not acceptable on such a new car like yours. But I have to say, the G is a very safe and tough vehicle.

I got rear ended last week while stopped at a red light, by some kid doing approx 60 miles/hr (as per police report). He sent me flying across the road onto the sidewalk. As you can see the car took the hit and remained intact. Not even the gas tank leaked eventhough it got hit also. The car was written off by the way.

I guess my point is, it could be worse. Fix the chips, get a clear bra and stay away from trucks.

Garry I'm with you on the paint issue, but you need to re-evaluate what a small stone is.

If stones are denting your grille and putting an 8" crack into your windshield (which has a pretty good angle to it) it has nothing to do with the G being a fragile car. This has everything to do with how much mass the stone has and how fast you are going when you hit the stone.

Unfortunately I think you are out of luck on the grille. Maybe look into a Gialla grille? Perfect reason to go with a grille mod.

Anyway best of luck with your car and dodging the rocks.

Im originaly from Chicago and I think the biggest problem is the road conditions up North. I also agree that the finish on the G is alright. I had mine wet sanded and hi speed buffed. The finish is now like glass.

I just live with the stone chips... it's not like a Hummer will be free of stone chips. Nor can it escape a damage from large rocks. I'm gonna get a new aftermarket bumper and a hood in a while anyway

Thanks. I am with you on the aftermarket grille. I think I might do that.

My overall dissatisfaction is really based on the fact that I have been driving for 27 years, many cars, and have never had one as fragile on the surface as this one.

I thought I was special with the paint. No chips, then I caught a bird on the front bumper, I learned real quick how crappy the paint is, best of luck Garry.
