Alignment Issue- This one hasn't been discussed!
OK, maybe it has...but I havent seen it in any of the recent threads that have been started. Sorry for all these questions going around and starting a new topic but I didn't wanna hijack anyones thread who was seeking help. Anyway, on to my question...
Today I took the car in to get an alignment on my newish [about 2 months] rims and tires. They are Ro_Ja R25's with TS-1 tires. The sizes: 19x10.5r 19x8.5f. I didn't really know where to take the car because I am so particular, but I ended up just taking it to the usual spot because I know I could watch them while they did everything [Not that I would notice anything out of the ordinary, but atleast I could watch them get it up on the lift, etc.]. OK, so after he gets done putting those weird little metal things on my rims [eeeek! I checked- no scratches! Phew...] He messed with whatever it is hes supposed to mess with in the front and then told me to come look at the computer....he said something like both the toe and camber were little off, something like 1/64th of an inch. He said I wouldn't be able to tell because its so small and the pulling to the right should stop. He then asked if I wanted all 4 aligned and I said sure, so he went to the back and began messing around back there.
In the end he said that the camber in the back was pretty high [the tops being pointed in slightly, duh] but that the pulling to the right was due to the tires. He also went on this preaching about not lowering it, how I'd hate it, the camber in the front would be all screwed up, etc. I've read almost all there is to read on every subject about the car...guess he was taking me as someone who didn't know crap. He finally said for me to get the tires rotated. "I can't", I said, "The back are wider than the front." And he went on to say that I was stuck with it then and that in itself would cause uneven tire wear and I'd be lucky to get even 20,000 miles out of these tires.
So what do you all think about this? Does he know what hes talking about? And is it possible he adjusted my camber in the rear so much that they are TO straight up and down? I am going to the dealer ship next weekend- should I have them look at it and see if its all within specs?
Well, anywho, heres the kicker, I drove off the lot and immediately took my hands off the wheel and let them hover over it, sure enough, it began to slowly but surely curve to the right and I watched the steering wheel head for the curb....I tried it again, this time at a different speed...again, same result. I was about to turn around and tell the man to get in with me and let him see it when I drive but I was hungry, tired, and it was starting to rain so I just wanted to get home and I thought I'd let Infiniti look at it.
Isn't there a TSB for this? I just looked and didn't really see anything, but its hard to tell on the site thats given- the desciption is so vague. I thought I remember someone else alooong time ago saying that his car also took dives to the right and that it was an issue with some cars [whether his was 03 or 04 I'm not sure]. Mine is a 2004.5 if that helps anyone out.
Let me know what you think....am I just going to have to deal with it? This issue of pulling to the right didn't start when I 1st put the rims out, I guess I accquired it over time.....
Thanks!- And sorry for the novel.
