I assume you have to remove your sterio to get to the AUX port no?

My friends 2005 civic has an AUX outlet right in the front of the sterio. Why couldn't the G have that!!

+1 on FM modulators not being a great thing. I recently bought a Belkin unit for use in my truck. It's great for books on tape (books on MP3), but sound quality during music playback leaves a lot to be desired.

I bought the AAI-NIS aux RCA input adapter for my Ipod and XM sat radio, it sounds great, no worrying about FM transmitter interference/poor quality.

Try this IPOD FM Transmitter - It is a Cig. lighter version that will send sound via FM radio wireless and also power the IPOD to keep those tunes playing. Reviews on sound quality have been good.

Only downfall to the coathangar mod is you lose an A/C vent on a hot day, lol.

With regard to an FM transmitter option, the best unit I have personally experienced is the Griffin RoadTrip. It's another type of mount that will obstruct a vent but it looks pretty good and fits perfectly on either side of the console. I have yet to find a local fm signal that overpowers whatever channel I have it set to. My last trip was an 8 hr trip and I never dealt with interference. The sound quality is better than the iTrip and Belkin units that friends allowed me to test. I am currently using the cassette adapter with the ipod in the RoadTrip cradle so you only see about 2-3 inches (depending on which side of the console you have it plugged into) of black cord from the tape deck opening until it disappears behind the unit. I fully intend to install the PAC unit when I have the time but for now I am happy with the sound quality. I'll definitely continue to use the RoadTrip as a mount once I get it hardwired in.

I've attached a few pics to give you an idea of how it looks. I am debated painting some of the white portions either black (the back stem portion) and the side/front a titanium color that will be a closer match to the console (and my mini) than the glaring white. In some tests I have found that Duplicolor wheel paint is a fairly close match.

I have the FM transmitter portion removed because I use it at work and forgot to bring it home today. The transmitter can be removed and powered through a usb connection (cables included). We like to jam tunes in the OR during surgery.

Sorry for the crappy pics, they lost alot of res when I resized them.

Oh yeah, the thing on top of my mini is a Griffin AirClick. It's just a remote control for the iPod.

I wish this place made one of these for our cars:

http://www.dension.com/

Basically makes it so you can control your ipod through the normal radio controls, and it plays out of your speakers so it sounds perfect. I know someone with a 3 series with one, but I havent seen any for our cars yet.

I've used the tape adapter, I hate it. The sound quality SUUUCKKS and you get that constant "hum" from the tape deck (I'm sorry its 2005...I shouldnt be listening to the background noise from a tape )

Edit: oh yeah go to the "icelink"...haha forgot to mention that

It depends on the quality of the mp3 itself. Even with very good mp3's, I've noticed some roll-off at lower frequencies and they do not sound as spacious and natural as real songs.

MP3 quality is another issue altogether. If you bring a portable audio CD player (non-mp3) into a car and play it through an FM modulator, you get the same problems; muddy bass and a general lack of clarity, with interference at times.

Some modulators are better than others, of course.

Personally, having a good portion of my entire music collection at my disposal is "a point" of having an iPod in addition to having better than cd quality sound (based on the sound file itself as mentioned above).

MrCynical,
I have been able to remove that "hum/hiss" by turning on the dolby noise reduction, lol. Sounds so 80's doesn't it?
