It's funny how when "performance" is mentioned in threads like this, its generally equated with straight-line accelleration. With regards to handling and braking, I bet the G is on par with the CLK55. As a package, the G35 compares nicely to the Benz. Irregardless, I do think the CLK55 is a great ride...I just wouldn't buy one that isn't Starmark Certified (CPO) or brand-new. You're in a whole different tax bracket when it comes to Benz maintenance.

I moved from an E430 to the G35 2 months ago (but I still have the Mercedes). I liked the performance and ride of the Benz, but the repair costs were too high. Brakes, oil, everything is repaired or replaced at a premium. Plus, the Benz will depreciate more quickly.

The thing that you will not like about the G35 is the interior noise. I spent quite a bit of time on sound deadening on my G35 and it's still a lot louder than my Mercedes.

Finally, my E430 has more low end torque than the G35 - pulls more quickly from 30-60 mph.

I will agree with one earlier comment - the G35 is perhaps one of the finest shaped cars on the road today. It is absolutely gorgeous.
