I think it's admirable that you want to stand and fight. But you'll learn it's better to pick battles you can actually win. In this case, I don't feel like dropping $1500-plus on a clutch job every year, so I'll baby the car a little more than I might like. I don't race the thing and I think playing Mario Andretti on public roads is a stupid thing to do, so it doesn't bother me a bit. YMMV.
The clutch definetely needs to be released 100% on launch. While accelerating hard, if you even put a little pressure on the clutch, it slips. Having a longer clutch travel makes it difficult for your leg to move fast enough to release the clutch 100% in such a fraction of a second. Doing the clutch mod to shorten the throw helps considerably.
ok....been ther done that ... its going to cost you about $1,000 that smell was your clutch's pads burning up and causing hot spots , you are going to need a new clutch, flywheel and pressure plate, it takes 8hrs to drop your tranny and do, i went through a clutch already doing the same shyt, just dont rev it up so much when you do the 180 rev it up to like 2,000 or 3,000 doint hit the rev lim. like you've been doing
Hey Geewilikers
He is just young having fun. You could have spent your time writing a novel instead of partaking in a debate about the guys car. You just said above that you got your silliness out 25 years ago. Hey just think in 25 years I'm sure this guy will be posting long windy points about how driving unsafely will ruin the reputation of his overpriced Nissan.
Cheers
I outgrew this silliness about 25 years ago so pardon me if I don't support your perspective.
Cheers

Thanks for your 18 cents. Again.
In hindering digression, for some, I'm going to try to take mine in within the next few weeks. Hard to justify the time when the clutch seems fine right now. I'll let you all know what they say.
Don't worry, I won't find the guy and make him eat his shoes.
Wow.. what a thread.
I've got a suggestion. VDC is not completely disengaged when you shut it off using the dash switch.
Perhaps this is just VDC kicking in.. considering that it in part uses clutch/tranny slippage to slow the car down.
Try pulling the VDC fuse and see if you can replicate the problem.
But not with my car.
cheers,
John

Just following up on this thread since I took my g in for this. To recap it's for all of us that have had issues with the clutch pedal sticking to the floor with no vehicle movement followed by a clutch odor. Dealer opened up the clutch inspection plate and found no problems. He said it had looked like it was heated up a bit but no damage. Car drives great. As a point of reference I ran into this clutch issue 3 times where the motor was revved significantly and I couldn't move. So I hope this alleviates some fears of major clutch damage. I trust this service guy so I don't think he's BS'ing me.
No resolve but at least a status of the condition on my clutch after three hard cases of this. If it happens again, I'm going to bring it back in.
Regards.

Paranormal's comments about upgrading the clutch, pressure plate and flywheel to more robust units are good advice for those interested in 4K-plus clutch-sidestepping burnouts. There are some good aftermarket options out there from reputable manufacturers.

Just a clarification on verbiage from more of JKWrongs empty posts. But I'm sure all of you read through it anyway.

Hope all of your G's are doing well.

I had the same issues this weekend. I have 1200 miles on my 05 G. My brother always raves about his BMW, so I figured I would show him how weak his car really is. Well it turns out that my car is the weak one, since I can't do a decent launch at 3500 rpm's.
My other car is a Lexus IS 300 (manual) and I have driven it aggressivley and never had this same problem. It has 50k on it now and the clutch is as strong as it ever was. I also had an accord that had 153k on the priginal clutch and I beat the sh*t out of that car, but it worked great.
I feel very strongly that spending 35k+ on a sports car should give me the right to burn the tires every once in a while without my clutch going out.
I have an appointment tomorrow to take my car in about this issue. I will post and update as to what they say. If the car can't handle some aggressive driving, then they shouldn't market it as a sports acr and they should allow me to return it (only been 2 weeks) so I can go buy a real sports car. I love my car, but I refuse to be forced to baby it becuase they used a weak clutch.
