Back seat room? and other questions

I'm pretty new here. I was looking to buy a new car in 14months when I graduate. I'm 21, but I generally drive pretty normally (never ever 10/10ths), and I want a nice luxury car with half decent fuel economy.

My question is, what is the back seat room like in the G coupe? I sat in it at the auto show but that's not like living with it. I regularly carry my friends around.

I don't know if I should go for the sedan or not. I live in a very VERY cold and snowy, hilly area (it's winter 6 months a year), and I'm wondering how the G would do in the snow? I really hate the styling of the sedan. The coupe just looks so much better to me. But if I don't have useable backseats, I can't buy it. Another requirement is that I have the manual tranny. I'm SICK of auto. Right now I'm running around in a 1996 Acura 2.5TL. It's not bad for a guy my age I guess. I've also looked at the 6spd TL with nav and really like that. The Lexus IS300 is too small for me so I crossed it off my list, and the ES330 is too old people-ish and boaty for me, and too much money comparably equipped. I really hate to flog a dead horse with G35 vs TL stuff. I read enough about them both. Mainly I need to know about the coupe's backseat room and winter performance. Thanks.

If the back seat room is important to you, get the Sedan. Coupe's rear space is fair at best and if you're average to tall in height, you'll bang your head back there.
The coupe is a wonderful ride and I loved her, but back seat and trunk space is sacrificed somewhat for looks.

Winter performance is great as long as you have snowtires on all 4 corners.

you aren't gonna like what you hear! coupe has a small b/s and with rwd, you get lot's of folks garaging them for the winter.

Get the sedan. Runs with the coupe (or faster), costs less, looks great, carries friends without having to contort them into the rear cubbies (notice I didn't say seats) and has a LARGE trunk to secure your valuables.

Oh, and it generally gets better mileage and is cheaper to insure.

the back seat room isnt that bad as long as your not driving around to long. i hardly travel w/ a lot of people (dont really like toting around people in the G.)

As far as snow i moved from jersey to miami...so dont really know to much about the car in the snow. But from what i've heard if you have some winter wheels and a set of blizzacks you should be fine. just be carefull with the rear wheel traction. best idea would be to only drive in the snow if you absolutly have to.

i would recommend getting out and driving some of these cars and as you mentioned in 6mt. the other cars you mention are also great cars: the TL very nice just not rear wheel drive, the G sedan well its a G, and as far as the is 300/ look into the is 350 coming out in the fall very nice car and will be able to compete with all the above cars.

Go test drive thats the only way you'll know what you like and want!

hope this helped!

Try out the AWD Sedan, sounds like it might be perfect for you.

Don't get the sedan if you don't like the styling. I think the sedan is pretty ugly too... The backseat of the G is not good for anyone over 5'10. I am 5'11 and it gets pretty annoying on trips over 30 mins. Since you drive alot of people around alot and want styling, I'd say go for the TL. I don't know about how it handles in snowy conditions but I think its the best thing for your situation. Very well equipped for the money too.

Backseat is a little cramped and anyone over 5'7" will hit their head over the rear windshield. It's also a pain in the *** to get into w/o scratching the door sill/seats. You definitely need winter tires. Regardless of what anyone says, RWD with winter tires is NOT as good as FWD with all-seasons. You'll just have to drive more slowly, especially from a stop.

Thanks for all your help guys. I would have preferred the AWD sedan but I can't, CAN'T live with an auto tranny. It sucks all the life out of driving. So that leaves me with RWD...now g35doc, it sounds like you have some snow experience. If you had 6 months of heavy snow/winter every single year, do you think you would have made the same choice? I used to drive an old 1990 Toyota 4Runner with a transfer case, and I usually found myself going into 4WD during the winter (killer of gas mileage). From what I've read it sounds like I should stay away from the coupe. I, myself, am only 5'8", but I have tall friends.

That's what I thought too but.......... I love's me my X baby and the old MM mode is pretty sweet. When it does the throttle blip on the downshift like the Ferrari version does there are a lot of hormones flowing in the boys and girls in the car. It is hot!

I looked at the TSX, er I mean Accord, er I mean TL in the 6 gear and I'm not into fighting the torque steer to keep it from killing the pedestrians on the sidewalks it wants to climb onto.

Try the X - first drive is free. The next one will cost a little more.

As for the weather (snow) I cant tell you how good/bad the Coupe is, but room space on the back is not good at all. Im 1.70meters tall and when I sit at the back, My head touches the rear window.

I personally don't like how the sedan looks; if I wanted a sedan I would probably go with a 2005 Acura TL. I often carry friends, and since I don't care if they are comfortable it works perfectly for me. Its a better back seat than most sport coupes. If anyone complains I just say “its a sports car; deal with it; you could've driven yourself."
As for the winter; it is a RWD; so if you want good performance you will have to get winter tires and a sand tube. Otherwise the car will get you there in the snow and the traction control is good; you just have to be careful.... FYI if you get the 18' rims you MUST get winter tires...

I still refuse to drive auto. I had two manuals, now I drive an auto and hate the transmission. It's so dry and boring, and MM is too pseudo for me. The problem is it's hard for me to get a test drive of the G so far in advance of my purchase because I'm 21. I also plan on keeping my car for 300 000km and 12 years at least, so I better like what I'm getting. I refuse to "settle" for an auto tranny that WILL be unreliable in the long run. Manual transmission replacement parts are much cheaper and easier than auto. A clutch here and there maybe, and at worst the master cylinder aren't any more than 500 bucks...

As for the torque steer, I could care less. I don't launch at 4000RPM. The advantage that the G has is that when I'm zipping around a corner, I won't have to back off the throttle as much will I?
