It's just a FM transmiter that connects to the 12V inside the armrest. It works nicely because it can sit like that and I can still close the lid... and it doesn't get beat by the sun.

 

Cool, but you will get better sound quality by using a tape adapter than w/ a wireless FM transmitter.

 

Everyone is often bad mouthing FM Transmitters and i can understand why cause some of them are pure CRAP. But my DLO Transpod works pretty damn well. I can't remember the last time i've heard any type of interference in the slightest, i'm really surprised and i've been using it for about 6 months now. No complaints at all.

 

05's do not have a tape adapter and I don't want to spend the time hardwiring. so FM is my only choice. The quality is awesome btw... not much less than CD... and I think mine is the Transpod too! =) awesome.


... I guess spending ~$90 on one of these things pays off.

 

I have the FM transmitter Kensington unit. It powers and charges at the same time and I have no issues with sound quality.

 

1) ok, how did you get it to plug into the inverter? all the ones I'm seeing online have the cigarette 12V plug on the end. 2) do they make one of these for a mini ipod? this appears to be a nice solution for mp3 in a stock04.

 

1.) There's an extension that goes from the back of the holding system to the 12V connecter that bends/turns. It comes with a least 1 ft of extension so you can do whatever you want... but that's for the 05. What type of plug does the 04 have inside the armrest?
2.) Yes, there's an extra piece that goes inside where the normal ipod is that limits the space so the mini iPod goes.

It's nice cause they include a nice little padding so no scratches =)

It really isn't. My 20gig is iPod is full...wish I would've bought the 40g!

 

Yeah, the MP3 feature is good, but I can't access the songs in the order, which I want at any given time. I've tired 3 different FM receivers and I get waaaaay too much static. It will for for a bit and then gets bad depending on where I am driving. Most of the FM stations out here in the bay Area are in use.

 

Speaking of IPOD's:

I recently had audomobile in oakland, ca install the IPOD connecter to my AVIC headunit. Just to forewarn everyone, make sure you have the latest version of IPOD which I think is 2.3. If you get "ERROR 2.1" you will only be able to hear the song.

At start up, the IPOD should say PIONEER and you should interface the controls from the headunit...

I have mine stored in the little cubby above the glove box...it was $95.00 + install whatever it was...it charges the IPOD when the car is on too...and the best part, it's hidden... I highly recommend this upgrade...

 

Make sure you try not to leave the iPod in your car too much when it is sunny outside. You can fry the circuits or even fuse or melt it. Happened to me with my mp3 player.
