outrages install price from edmonton infiniti

So i go to ericsson infiniti and ask to have a set of eibach lowering springs, eibach sways, and eight piece grounding kit installed. They give me an estiment of $600. Then when i go to pick my car up the bill said $1027. what the fck is that, and they dropped one of my rims. I told them im not paying until my rim is fixed and you lower that outrages fee. I mean is it just me or is that insane.

If they qouted you a price verbally it will hold up in court. They can not raise the price without you approval first. You should've been told if labor was running more time...fight it.

I'm confused...outrages? Outrageous on the other hand...

Was your estimate written or verbal? Always get everything in writing!

Why would you ever go to the dealership to get things installed. Everyone knows their prices are outrageous.

Suspension stuff can be tricky, esp if you don't have the right tools. Unless you have acess to a floor jack, impact wrench, full set of sockets, etc, suspension mods are hard to do.

Unless you're like me and have the car on 4 jack stands, a metal breaker bar, and a half missing socket set and just plain old crazy. Then any mod is doable

That is your white coupe with the 19"? ....... it looked really nice

But what they charged you is INSANE. After all they are only Eibach's and installing them isn't that hard. My spring/shock/sways install took me about 6 hours and I was taking my time because I hadn't done it before.

FYI they did verbally quote me a price of $1500 to install a set of camshafts and that is a lot more labour intensive. Makes me wonder if I let them do the work, what the final bill would be. I'll consider this a heads-up. A better place to do mods and probably better prices is West End Nissan. I've talked to the service manager and he seemed pretty cool to the idea of mods but it's still shop rate of $90/hr.

Good luck.

p.s. you'd better get and hang on to the old springs ..... their worth their weight in bronze.

I forgot to add that they also didn't do the alignment in house either ........ it was sent out to be aligned. I was talking to Dale about some alignment specs I'm researching and your install came up in the conversation.

When I was getting my konis installed, Erickson quoted me 6 hours plus cost of a wheel alignment. Thats $540 plus alignment plus gst which would put the price at close to $700. I went elsewhere.

I think coupin was questioning why he did not go to a performance shop instead of the dealer to get this work down.

Seems unreasonable to me - especially seeing as how they messed up your wheel. Just went through a messed up wheel ordeal with a tire shop - "I feel your pain..." My new wheel will be here Thursday.

I'm not sure if the law regarding written estimates is consistent from state to state. I believe I've read that unless you give written consent, it's illegal to exceed the original quote by more than a certain percentage of the total cost.

For myself - I always have the work order annotated with this qualifier:

If estimate is to be exceeded, owner must be contacted first.

I've never had a problem since.

As for getting the mods done at a dealer, I see PRO and CON to the deal.

The CON is the cost for labor and such - doing the mods yourself or at an aftermarket shop can be cheaper - sometimes a good thing and sometimes not, if you know what I mean.

The PRO would be that the dealer doing the mod would be more likely to honor warranty work without a hassle if they installed the mods themselves. If you had it done there, it seems like it would be harder for them to point to the mod as the cause of whatever woe you have. I know what the law states with regard to mods and such - it still doesn't stop the hassle that can sometimes come with trying to make your dealer do the right thing.

Good luck with the resolution of this problem.. It's one that has probably bitten most of us one time or another.

i feel for you man, i had a set of splash guards and an intake installed for 330 dollars at my dealer!...ive learned my lesson!

they said it took 1.5 hours to install the splash guards + 2 hours for the pop charger/ Z tube... i can ask my old fat neighbor to do the job, that slob can probably do it in half the time. and they charge you by the hour at the dealer!
they go on their lunch breaks and you have to pay for that too.
for each donut they eat you get charged 10 dollars
for each sandwich they inhale you get charged 30 dollars.
for each slurp they take out of their drink you get charged 5 dollars.
for each time they burb its 50 cents out of your pocket.

i mean come on! what do they do in that damn garage? ask anyone here how long it would take to install a set of springs, sways, and a grounding kit and i guarantee you it will take half the time it took them.. + they got extra sets of hands to assist the fat *** es

Yes it's different in other states. Here in TEXAS mechanics have an incredible amount of power over you. If you don't pay, even if THEY fuked it up, they can put a "mechanics lean" on your car and have it impounded! Now THAT'S FUKED UP!
