How do you remove the Navigation Compartment Lid?

How do you remove the Navigation Compartment Lid?
I just bought a portable GPS device and wanted to fit it into the navigation storage area. However, the lid is in the way and the only way I can fit it is to remove it. Is it possible to remove the lid without taking the dash off? Any pictures would be great. Thanks.
