Quick question about 05 5AT

On the 05 5AT, when it is in the MM mode does it downshift to lower gears progressively as you slow down or does it only downshift to 1st when coming to complete stop as in my cousins prelude?( you have to downshift yourself when you are slowing down)

It will downshift according to speed. So if you fly into an exit ramp at say 70 in 5th, when you slow down a bit it will automatically downshift for you accordingly, into 3rd or 4th lets say.

So basically, there really isnt any need to downshift, since it will do that automatically, but you still can (but of course dont downshift from 5th to 1st if you are going 65mph ) -- You must always upshift though, it will not upshift for you automatically at all.

What I do like about the MM is if you're going in Drive say at 55+ and want to get a sudden surge of speed, just drop it into MM mode and it'll automatically drop you down into 4th. I use that all the time to pass someone and then just flip it back over to D mode whenever I want.

quick addendum to the upshifting...it wont let you stall the car from upshifting either, you cant shift into 2nd at a standstill

Yes it downshifts and the dash numbers follow along in recent G's like the Coupe always was, but it downshifts at such a low rpm it's not any good for braking at all. For that you have to manually downshift to a lower gear. It is dependent on vehicle speed as to whether the tranny will go into the next lower gear.

Pratik, Dont flip it from D to MM when you are driving .. make sure you are at a complete stop. My Service Manager advised me not to flip it from D to MM when the car is moving .. and when you are in D ... and u step on the gas Hard .. it will automatically Downshift for you and give you more power.. so you really don't need to flip to MM when u are in D and you need a sudden surge of speed.

I think thats BS what he told you..

Why would it be bad at all? He is just manually doing what the car will do by itself in theory.. Allthough I personally think that way is more effective, I switch from D to MM and back and forth all the time..

On my testdrive, the guy said one of the cool features about the car was how you could switch from the two modes "on the fly" which is also noted in the quick manual I believe. Why else would they make it this way so that it is so easily accomplished and why would they go through the whole process of having it match the gear it should be in when you flip it if you were not supposed to do this?

Absolutely wrong. Show your owners manual to your service manager. Here's the quote from page 5-13.

Manual shift mode

When the selector lever is shifted from D
to the manual shift gate with the vehicle
stopped or while driving, the transmission
enters the manual shift mode. Shift range
can be selected manually.
