New tranny, Dealer forgets to put lock for reverse.

hey guys well i just got a new tranny and new rear axle from the grinding and clicking noise. So i test drive the New tranny and instead of pushing down so u can go to reverse that lock that keeps you putting it there is not there. Basically u can just go right and down to go to reverse.. which i gotta get use to it when i go to 5th and going down to 6th... dealer is closed already so i guess ill mention it tommorow..

Good catch, but be careful tho or they'll have to order another tranny.

You won't need a new tranny, there is square plate on the base where the shifter enters the frame of the car. The shifter has a little dowel attatched to the passenger side of it. The plate has to be adjusted from side to side, or front to back so that on the side by 5th and 6th gear, the dowel will hit the side of the plate, not allowing you to go into Reverse without pushing the shifter down, which will move the shifter down with the dowel attatched to it, which allows the dowel to go under the plate, and in turn allows you to move the shifter over and increased amount to the right to go into reverse.

Off topic, but another interesting fact I found out, if the door pin switch, (lcoated in the door jam) ever goes bad, and gets stuck in the closed position (as is the case on a lot of older cars, where the interior lights do not come on), and you shut the door, instantly your looking at: a new window and paint repair to the driver's or passenger's side window channel.

not really. unless you live in Socal, there's a high likelihood you'll find your windows completely frozen many times during the winter. You'll know when you open the door. While obviously you can cheese up the a-pillar, *most* times it closes ok. I'm sure if you let it go and let it hit a few times, it might damage the apillar. But its not a given, thankfully... Or I would be on my 4th or 5th a-pillar cover by now.

so your saying this can be fixed by just adjusting the plate under the shifter? can this be done by me? is it hard?

Sorry I replied so late, but yes is can be done by you. I will find information and instructions on this later on today, (if the car is not already getting this adjusted)

What happens EXACTLY if you are going 60 mph down the road, shift into N let the RPMs climb down till idle and then jam it into R? What goes boom and what needs to be fixed?
