And I am ready to get a custom license plate. Not saying what it's gonna say till I get it done...lol Can I just go to the DMV even though I don't even have plates to request a custom license plate? Or do I have to wait until I get my regular license plate?

What you can do is this (I am doing the same thing). First off, do you have AAA? If you do, you can go in and do it there, they will run the plate that you choose to see if its availiable....then you pay your money. Once it comes in, they call you and you can take it home even if your sequential plates haven't come in from DMV. You are restricted from putting on the plates until you "give up" your sequential plates to AAA. Hopefully this helps you. Plus, you don't have to have the headache of going into the DMV office and wait in line.

 

by your sig, assuming you are in ca... you can go to www.dmv.ca.gov and look at whatever your creative brain can come up with. choose your plate design (if you want one). you can order & do the whole thing right there. pick the plates up at a DMV near you when they are ready.

 

After I bought my coup 3 weeks, I went to dmv.ca.gov and order my own plate. 3 weeks later I got my number plate send to my home, but I didn't hang it up on my car yet. 3 more weeks I got a note in a mail that said I had to go to the DMV to picked it up. I brought my number plate and come there to exchange my own plate. Make sure you keep the resgistration card (the note from the mail) because they will not give you anything else .

 

Eddie, you can search for what you want online, then when you get your first plate and your official registration, take your reg. and proof of insurance to the DMV and tell them you want a custom plate...they'll do it right there and it costs only like $29 (depends on state)

i didn't get my plates yet either but what i did was i requested and listed some things that i wanted to say on my plates... they made me list 3 just in case. by the way i did it through my dealership now all i have to do is hope that it goes through...
