Considering what it was : a GTO ad., and that the G was an A/T, probably with the VDC left on to skew the numbers, I'm not surprised at all.
We all know real world results would be much better for the G, and the others too.

What doesn't suprise me is how well the G's did against the Ultimate Driving machines in the slalom and road course considering they didn't have the sport suspensions.

 

I don't think it has anything to do with it being a GTO ad, the GTO only ran a 13.9 i believe and that should easily be low 13's.

 

No doubt the GTO is capable of some very stout #'s, but the others including our beloved G's are more capable too.
Another, unbiased comparison would close that gap in performance considerably.
There is no doubt about the GTO's performance tho. I agree.

They did drifting in the GTO for about 12 minutes of the show. Notice that they ONLY talked about 400 hp, not about how well it handles. I can't believe the SCCA sponsored the test. I guess they only certified the testing parameters, but not actually that the cars were comparable to each other.

5th Gear is a great show. When are they going to have new shows? Tiff Needel can really ring out cars. What a fun job!

RIDICULOUS! I wonder how much Pontiac had to pay Speed and the SCCA guy. First of all they are pitting a Cavalier with a 400 HP V8 against a V6 with what sounded like an Auto, give me a break! The Mustang vs the GTO I can see but how can they even compare our cars to that POS, they should do a show on build quality and re sale value next time. Sorry for the rant just my 2cents.

 

I taped it, but fast-forward through probably 75% if it! That was the absolute worse comparo I have ever seen. Anybody who didn't see it, just be glad you didn't waste 30 minutes of your life. And the numbers they came up with were terrible for ALL the cars, even the GTO! 0-60 secs of 6.0 for a 400 hp GTO? LOL! Should be closer to 4.9 secs! And I don't think I even have to mention the 7 secs for the G35, do I? Whoever their test drivers are, I think even my grandma can out drive them. Although, we G35 owners are pissed at their comparo, I can't imagine Pontiac or even Ford being too happy with the numbers they came up.

 

If you want to see some cars in action watch G4TV on sundays, they have D1 Drift Competitions... in this past weeks one a G35 placed 4th which is good because it was it's second time competing vs cars that had more tweaking since 2004.

I also agree that 5th Gear is a great show, I love the humor they put into it. I also like Top Gear, since the Tiff started out (TV car reviews) in Top Gear a few years ago with Viki(sp?)

I still can't believe they can get away with saying the G coupe was a 2005 6MT when the video clip show an AT without the sport package.

 

^ i dont recall them calling it a 6mt...I could be wrong though.
