Mismatched tires = Unsafe.

Mismatched tires = Unsafe.
I didn't think it would be that big of a deal..
my OEM pilots on my rear went out at 16k.
I replaced them with Dunlop SP9000s.. and left the OEM pilts on the front cuz they had quite a bit of tread left.
the handling is scary. and scary in a BAD way.
I change lanes at 70mph on the highway.
To change lanes you pull the wheel to the left slightly and then back to the right to straigthen it out right? well when i pull it back to the right, VDC comes on and it feels like either the fronts slip or the rears slip.
Don't even get me started on trying to put any acceleration during a turn.
It's like drift/slide VDC city.
the problem is Discount tire doesnt have a sp9000 for the fronts in the size I need.

Did you already put 16k miles on your 2005 since October? Damn!
A couple suggestions....check your air pressures, sometimes the shops over- or underinflate them. Also, look for 245/40-18 in the Dunlops. They are a very close diametrical fit to the stock 225/45-18's.
What are you going to do?

actually 16,000 since Mid december....
I drive alot..
and I have no idea what Im gonna do now..
gonna go to discount tire and see what I can get.
for the frnots but they only offer these in matched sets.
- the Dunlop Direzza DZ101s which I hear are a budget tire that are kind of loud.. not that great for handling. and are harsh.
- Nitto nt555
I don't know anything about this tire.
- g-force T/A KDA KDW NT
I've heard nothing but bad things about this tire..
poor treadlife, extremely noisy, bad traction in the rain after a few months of wear.
so will the 245/40-18 really fit on the front tires ok?
I think they'd have those in stock
It sucks that our 18s are such obscure sizes.
The tires i really want cuz i heard they were awesome are the Michelin Sport Pilot 2.

You need to break them in first. don't take brand new tires and think they will
stick like glue from the get go. they have release lube on them from the mold
and it is slick until you break that layer off.
Even S03's behave the same way when brand new. just drive easy for the first
50miles or so. (I just do a quick burn out in some backroad and it does the
trick. Im not suggesting you do that).

unmatched tires is not unsafe. as long as you have a set matching, two fronts or two rears its fine. that may seem like airpressure like mentioned above, or the break in. as said before avoid Nitto's, they suck. Pilot Sport 2's are def hte best tire you can get. I have the DZ101's on my dads car, direzza, and theyre good. theyre not like the sp9000's, but theyre nice. dont know about noise, i havent had a complaint, hes go them in 19's too and i havent noticed anything. Try Kumho MX. great tire, good price, AMAZING grip. best bang for the buck is Kumho. Always...

On a side note, Just to let everyone know, when you have a vehicle that has 4 tires, but say you only replace two...the new tires should always go in the rear. I know this isn't really applicable to the G because the tire sizes are different, but just as a reminder. Because I recently took my 4runner to discount tire and only needed two tires ,the front ones... No one mentioned to me that the new tires should go in the back, because if new tires are in the front and have more grip than the rear, In wet conditions it will cause the vehicle to fish tail. At only 40mph! my 4runner did a 360 in the rain with total ease, ended up hitting a guard rail, the truck flipped and progressive totalled out the truck. I wasn't turning or anything. The back end just kicked out, it was the scariest thing. So point is, rwd or fwd , doesn't matter... new tires in the rear, or replace all 4.

Maybe the Dunlops overall diameter are different enough from the OEM Pilots that the VDC kicks in.
Also, since your front tires are older, they have a slightly smaller diameter, while the brand new Dunlops have a bigger diam. than the tires it replaced. The combined front and rear differences could be enough to fluster Mr. VDC.
