Re: Rice Rice Baby

All over-the-top snobbery aside, I don't think anyone has a problem with folks who have limited resources putting a supercharger in their Civic (or any car) to give it some "go." (Although you could just buy a used sports car.)

The people I mock are the ones who express their "originality" by doing the exact same cosmetic (or faux-performance) mods to their Civics that every other Civic ricer does. Inappropriate Type-R stickers, attachments to their exhaust that sound like moose in heat, preposterous rear spoilers (it's a FRONT wheel drive car, morons), etc.

This is the equivalent of someone pulling up to you and shouting: "Look at me! Look at my Civic! Are you deaf? I'm turning up my bass until you look at me in my Civic! Are you blind? I'm hitting all my neon and LEDs until you look at my Civic! See, don't we look fast?! It's a super fast Civic with an extra 500 pounds of audio equipment/body kit/huge chrome wheels and a stock engine!"

Seriously, what other conceivable response could I have to that but contempt, no matter what I was driving? My mother could buy a base Civic and it'd immediately be faster than these idiots straight from the dealership, simply because it doesn't have all that stupid crap weighing it down.

It's like they've got the cause & effect backward. You put a spotlight on a showcar because it's already unusual and cool, not because it makes the car cool.

Re: Rice Rice Baby

Yeah JDMan you pretty much summed up my thoughts exactly. I have no problems with most Civic drivers and tuners, it's the over-the-top attention ****** who I have a problem with.

Re: Rice Rice Baby

I dont know what everyone heres backround is but me personally im not rich. I had to buy my own first car and yes it was a Civic. My second car was a Prelude. Notice the theme as a get older the cars get more expensive. G35 are beautiful cars by all means but they are still only a great deal for the money spent. If you had bottoless pockets would you have a G35 or would you have a Bugatti. For me the choice is easy. I love my G35 but if I could afford a MB SL600 i would have never even taken a second look at G35s. BTW riceboys are the jackasses with not necessarily import econos(even though they were the start of it) but anyone that makes thier car look fast and sound fast without the mds to prove it. Im sure you have seen ome of the articles with 5 and 600 hp civics. They could blow your doors off. But becaus eyour in an infiniti and them a honda must have the better car. I dont think so buddy. Remember infinits are still only Nissans in Japan.

Re: Rice Rice Baby

Guys,
We all have to start some where. Some of us start at the top **wink** to the teens here with G's. I think most of us have to work our way there and that starts with a cheap car. I actually think alot of people here have owned a cheap import at one point in their lives. My last car was a civic too. I tricked it out alittle but I kept it "clean". That's my taste, some people have a differant taste which involves Vegas lights on the under carriage and a windsail on the back. That's their taste so I can't condem them for that cuz' it's an opinion and nothing more. I never thought my civic was more than it was but it was still nice to fix it up and dream of the day when I could own something like a G. Now the day has arrived and I actually smile every time I see a "rocket de arroz" zooming by with 7000RPM spilling from that coffee can. I do not agree with the "snobbery" that some have here for some people makin the best of what they got. Cuz' I remember when it was me thinkin what a jerk that guy in his Bimmer or Lexus was for lookin down his nose at me cuz' I'm proud of what I got and workin on somethin better. Just some thoughts for those few whom think that a car makes you a better person. Peace.

Re: Rice Rice Baby

Listen I had a Prelude, 97' SH, That did have a loud system in it but that was it (it helped to drown out noise) and the car in my opinion was a damn pig. I wasn't impressed with the power it put out at all and I was in college and too broke to do anything about it.

Now mind you I realized my car was not the fastest thing on the planet and I didn't act like it was. I'm sick of having a 115 Hp. piece of Burnt rice next to me trying to race my 280 Hp. beauty. (and half the time they really are burnt right by where the exaust melts their bumper).

I mean If you know your car's not fast then for go sakes recognize it. I'm sick of having some idiot driving next to me and cutting me off with something that probably goes faster when the wind is blowing on that godforsaken thing that they a wing which is usually twice the size of the car itself. For crying out oud they should also have yellow lights and a wide load sticker(.5hp) on the car as well. I have no disrespect for someone that drives a civic or integra or any other car for that matter and doesnt make a jackass out of themselves. Lets put it this way if I had a Lambo and someone in a G came flying up next to me reved their engine and cut me off all the time I would feel the same way about them. Ricers bring it upon themselves is all I'm saying. Hondas and Acuras are really great cars just some of their owners have a few scerws loose.

Re: Rice Rice Baby

Look, my first car was a 6 year old, yellow Subaru Brat. That thing looked almost as ridiculous as a ricer when stock. It was fun in the sand and snow, and I drove it with the exuberance of any 16 year old, but I never had any illusions that I was driving a Porsche. And I felt no need to call any additional attention to myself by having bass loud enough to rattle the windows of the car in the next lane. Granted, that's partly because it was 1989 (big year for Paula Abdul, Milli Vanilli, New Kids on the Block, and Bon Jovi (and bizarrely, that's the second time I've mentioned Honda Civics and Bon Jovi together on this forum)). But also because I wasn't going to drop a big chunk of change on audio upgrades to a car I paid $2000 for.

If you're that low on funds and want a fast car, doesn't it make more sense to save that cash for a used sports car rather than spending it on parts? The distance between the economy and elite becomes smaller and smaller on the second hand market. New, custom parts are expensive, and second hand parts are rare and dodgy. You rarely get much of the cost of those parts back on re-sale of the car. The sports car will sell for its fair value. Furthermore, it's not too difficult to get a loan on the used sports car. Much harder if not impossible to get a loan on a supercharger. And that's just the owners who are buying valid performance parts. What the hell is the guy who can only afford a used Civic doing spending all that money to install a huge wing on his car? Adds weight, creates drag, and even if you get the little weed whacker up to a speed where it functions, all you're doing is adding downforce to wheels that neither power nor steer. I don't care how hard-earned his cash is, that's just plain dumb. May as well tie a big parachute to it and pretend that makes you a dragster.

Even if I drove a Kia, I'd still make fun of (that sort of) a Civic.

Re: Rice Rice Baby

Yea, I agree with ya. I’ve heard of people spending $10K and up to $40K combined in modifying $15K Civic’s and Integra’s! It just doesn’t make any sense to me.

Re: Rice Rice Baby

djgcue, I couldn't agree more with what you said. The same goes to everyone who posted after you agreeing with your comments. banatoman and JDMan, I'm sorry to say this but you guys are a bunch of snobs. These kids work hard for their car just like you did for yours, so I don't understand the hate. You hate ricer? Fine but why pick on the Civic, there is a lot of people that rice up their car so why pick on that specific model? Once again, props to you djgcue for sticking up and to remind them that their two first comments were totally out of place and their hate not welcome on such a cool site.

Re: Rice Rice Baby

JD I'm sorry man but obviously my point is not getting across to you. You are judging someone completely by their car. Forgive me but right now you sound exactly like some of the people I described in my post above. Your opinion is yours of course but.... You are not a better person than someone else because you own a better car.

You said you owned an old Subaru Brat right? I'm sure that at some point someone looked at you with disdain and thought geez why did he waste his time? Why didn't he save for most of his young life for a REAL (in your opinion) car. And I bet you may have actually taken car of your car, maybe even put new air freshener in it? How would you judge yourself now for that? Would you look down your nose and say: Loser why are you spending money on that junk? Do you see my point?

Everybody wants to improve the quality of their surroundings it's a natural human thing to do. I'm sure if you lived in a crappy apartment in the ghetto that you would still like to make it the best crappy appartment in the hood. I'm sorry but I think it's VERY self-righteous of you to judge someone because they try to improve what ever they have in what ever absurd way they can. Some people just aren't car savvy in the first place so they check out 2 Fast 2 Furious and think hey I think a shopping cart handle on the back is cool. It's relatively cheap and simple and doesn't require total car knowledge to go about it.

I agree with you on the fact that it looks horrible and very cheap, but for some it's the look that makes em' FEEL like they are going fast and lookin good. As I said before I think it looks like crap but it also makes the daily drive a little more interesting, at least for me.SO.... My point again is why don't you just be the better person by not putting people down for their expressions of "creativity" in their vehicles and try to remember what it was like when all you had was your BRAT and your dreams. Peace.

<blockquote><font class="small">In reply to:</font><hr>

If I owned a 99'~00 Si Civic and had 5K~7K to spend on it (myself doing all the labor), it would be pretty quick, probably hang with Z06s on the 1/4mi. Therefore, 13K for the car plus 7K in upgrades = 20K car that can get between 12~13secs on the 1/4mi. Not bad for a fixed up Econo car.

<hr></blockquote>

Oh God, not again. Please, no more rice mobile comparisons to a Z06. Just call it a quick, riced out Civic econobox, and nothing more. Its not a $20k Z06.

Just don't even go there, OK?
