Major Ding on Hood - Brand New coupe
Major Ding on Hood - Brand New coupe
Damn Gravel Truck!
Going down the freeway and a junk hauler/gravel truck dropping stuff of the rig like a flock of birds in flite right over the car.
Brand new 05 OB, AT w/ less than 1000 miles, had less than 3 weeks, and front of hood catches one "DEAD ON".
About the size of a golf ball major ding - bent and paint gone -down to the metal. *CRAP*
QUESTION IS?????
Can a shop (after dent bondo'ed), just feather spray it back or does entire hood have to be repainted. I detest the thought of having to repaint the entire hood as I just don't think it would shine like a mirror again without seeing orange peel.
Anyone Agree or Disagree? What options??

If you get it done at a good place, the paint will be just as good as stock. Its when you go to shady cheap places that the paint looks ****ty. You get what you pay for with paint. I think a touchup would be far too noticable on black because it is normally so shiney.
You're better off having the whole hood painted over again. "Feathering in" an area will never come out looking right, specially on your hood which is smack dead in your face. I could see it being done to lower sections of doors, fenders, bumpers and so on, but not on your hood. The results will be quite questionable, and probably not worth the $$$. I've had hoods (damaged by road debris) repaired for anywhere from $300-$400, that came out looking like brand new again.
I personally dont think the paint on the G is all that good to begin with. I see a fair amount of orange peel on all the G's I have seen including mine. Any good paint shop will "color sands" the painted area after and you will not see any orange peel. It should look like a mirror.

This happened to me to right when I only had 1000 miles, but imagine a jagged rock the size of a tennis ball!!!
Needless to say I hate those ***** and they shouldn't be allowed to drive on the highways. I chased the truck, got the plates, company, truck number...tried to call next day, numbers been disconnected.
The rock bounced, knicked my front lip on its way up, then boucned head on my windshield and still have the scratch on both the lip and windshield to this day. If it werent for the front lip, and me not speeding, I would've been smiling without teeth.
