The Ultimate Question...money wise ^^

Hey fellas,
I know that a lot of you guys are car enthusiasts and would love to push it to the max if you could...and some of you have (ive seen the stats). However, IS it really worth blowing 2K for a minimal increase in power, especially since I have an AT? Please don't take this the wrong way guys, I'm just trying to weigh it out cuz of financial situations and my insatiable hunger for that extra power. I really just plan on getting the NISMO headers on top of the NISMO intake that I have already purchased. I've already accumulated 4K onto my credit card and its starting to stress me out. Your two cents would be much appreciated.

Credit card debt is a bad thing. Dont let mods put you in debt man. You will be kicking yourself later I promise.. just pay off the cards and save up for them... but who the h3ll am I to talk I charged 2k in rims onto a card 6 months ago and I still have $570 left till they are payed off. In the end its your money and your going to be the one paying those cards off sooner or later.

ok, more ecouragement, here you go:

DO NOT DO IT. DON'T DO IT. DON'T EVEN THINK ABOUT IT!

always only spend the money you have. i currently have $6000 charged on my card from the last month, even more i think, but 1) i never carry balance, and 2) i know i can pay it off with one payment - when i get my next statement.

never pay for mods with money you don't have - credit cards provide you with convenience, not with free cash.

/edit: and here's the sad part. i know i can get my G supercharged and all tweaked out, but that would involve in me getting money from my savings... for some reason i am hesitant to dip into short-term savings, i don't know why... maybe because i want a safety cushion in case i decide to quit my job tomorrow (you won't believe how satisfying it is - know you can quit your job tomorrow and not worry about living expenses for months).

Yeah definately not worth doing. Don't spend on what you can't really afford. Its better to save up and then purchase. I also find its more rewarding and exciting that way. Each time you save up for something new, it makes the mod that much more special once you get it.

As my sig below says..."take your time, do it right, and never settle for less." If it takes you 5 years to have enough money to afford to do the mods you want.. then so be it. Take your time! The value of your mods is all on you. If you feel something is worth it... then go for it. If not, then dont. Also, dont try to cut corners in order to save money. DO IT RIGHT! Do it correctly the first time so that you'll never have to worry about all the hassle and problems that come with taking short cuts and buying cheap parts to save money. Remember, its your car and nobody elses... so NEVER settle for less!

You might want to spend some time on my350z.com to learn WHY the VQ35 won't benefit from N/A mods the way other car makes/models do. Look at some dyno charts. Don't just jump on the bandwagon because 100 other people on here have a certain mod and their butt dyno said it added 20hp. I'd recommend you to meet up with other Gs in your area (check local forum) and actually take a ride with different people to see how you like their mods. I had seen/heard/witnessed every single thing I've bought for my G on another car prior to buying it and made my own conclusions about whether it was worth it.

And avoid debt like the plague, don't think that you'll be ok to pay it off next month because next month brings more and more bills to pay. Treat your credit cards like check cards, except that you don't deposit anything up front, so one day when you need to charge a huge amount you won't get stressed out about paying it off.

I don't want to discourage you from modding, there are many mods out there that make your car more powerful/louder/better-looking. Having a unique car and modding in it itself is a ton of fun. Like the rest said, wait till you can afford what you want and just know when to stop.

You already have a great automobile, that IMHO is expensive as it is. Be happy with what you have. If you really want more speed, buy another car down the road (GTR, M3, etc).

i wouldnt put anything on my card i couldnt pay off in full when the statement comes.
imo the $2k on the mods you describe wouldnt be worth it b/c you wouldnt even get much acceleration. if anything, save up for something like a vortech s/c...

NO NO NO NO NO NO NO!

Hope that helps.

Seriously, too many young folks get in over their heads with the easily-attainable credit cards out there.

If you don't mind me asking - what interest rate are you carrying on your current card? Do some math and see how much those mods are really costing you - unless you're paying the balance in full at the end of the month. From the sound of your post I doubt you are.

It cracks me up when guys will talk about the great deal they got on this or that, and then they carry the balance on their credit card at 10% or whatever. What's the point of finding a good deal if you're going to let the balance ride and grow on a credit card.

Proper use of a credit card will help you build good credit - improper use will do just the opposite. A few extra HP isn't worth the debt it takes to get there IMHO. You'll feel it more in your bank account than you will in the seat of your pants.

Best reply of the post IMO. haha. Gotta evaluate and balance what you think is more important. Some debt....or some horsepower. I know plenty of people that would go for some horsepower haha.
