New Guy - American Muscle
Hello All,
After being an America Muscle car guy for many years, I just purchased my first NON-American car. My better half has love her past 3 Lexus and I've seen the light and now driving a '05 G35 !!! AND LOVING IT. I know nothing about getting more performance out of this new car and look forward to reading and being a part of this forum.

Congrats. on the conversion.
I enjoy most performance cars, import or domestic. I sold my Big Block '55 Chevy Bel Air 2-Door Hardtop street rod on Ebay a few months ago ($21K) so I could get the G without a killer monthly payment. I love hot rods, domestic muscle and such, but my heart has always been with the imports. You'll enjoy the step up in overall qaulity... ...even if the G isn't as responsive to simple bolt-on mods as a lot of American muscle cars.
And the calipers look good.

Naa, they look cool!
Check out www.everythingg35.com for your G35 needs. I'd start out with clear corners, so you can ditch those ugly orange lights on the side! Clear Corners and Z-Tubes (replace the restrictive G35 intake tube with the 350Z intake tube) are probably two of the most popular and cheap modifications.

Thanks for the posts guys. I sold my '02 Mustang for the G. The Stang was rated at 425hp rw, so the G is a step or two behind in HP but it's a more solid car and BETTER handling car. Plus the BOSS would not drive the Stang ( due to it being a stick ). She can drive the G, so it's a win win for me !!!
Yea ...... one of the first things is a cold air kit. BUT looking into a Procharge for next month. Just have no idea to shops in my area ( Chicago ) to do the work.

Do some research before settling on the "normal" mods, as the G seems to like some things but not others.
The OEM airbox on the G isn't all that restrictive... ...or at least the "cold-air" and sealed box aspects of it level the playing field with the open-element filters that get their air from under the hood. Likewise, some have experienced idle and coast-down (approaching a stop) problems with some of the cold-air intakes, such as the enggine dying on them because revs drop too low. Some feel the stock airbox with a hi-flow drop-in filer (like a K&N) is the way to go. Search the site and get the scoop on what works and what doesn't.
As far as intake improvements, most are replacing a section of the intake tract with a smoother unit, such as the OEM part on the Z. That's the "Z-tube", and there are aftermarket "G-tubes" made just for the G35. Aside from that, a plenum or plenum spacer is your opportunity to really open up the intake side.
Most will tell you that the proven formula for power, with the least amount of mods, is: Headers, Cats, Y-pipe, Z-tube and Plenum... ...if you're staying naturally aspirated.

Here are a few simple NA mod ideas that seem to get the most out of the G from what I've seen. They won't get you 425 HP but may get you the best results for the money without actually reducing the power of the car.
Z tube- K&N filter set up (some go with the popcharger but be careful of the clearance so that it doesn't wear a hole in your AC line)
Y pipe with reducer mod- I hear a lot of good things about Unlimited Tuning Y Pipe
Plenum Spacer- This seems to be the hottest simple mod on the market right now for 03 and 04 models as well as 05 AT's.
Do some research on high flow exhaust systems, as well as headers and aftermarket plenums.
