Scratch - Need Help

SOB! I've had the car just over two weeks! I parked the car in a lot today and the perma plate is scratched, the clear plastic paint protector graphic looking thing in front of the rear passenger wheel. I haven't taken pics yet so I apologize for not posting. Any idea how much that plastic tape/clear cover is to replace and how long it takes to do?

DG/G 05 6MT + Navi + Prem.

A pic will help out, no one (that I've read so far) has changed that on the forum. I dont even know if you can get it from infiniti pre-cut. All I know is that that tape is thicker than the ones you get when you install a clear bra so using clear bra tape wont work.

Correct, and thanks for the response. I'm just wondering if anyone has done this. I've seen cars that don't have it installed at all. The dealer told me that perma comes out and does the install daily on the cars, that they can give me a quote too. As it's such a small section I would and am hoping it's cheap. I'll do my best to get some pics up in the next few hours.

Why don't you just remove those plastic things on both sides of the car?

I've thought about that already. But as it appears this has saved my a$$ once i'd rather spend the 50 - 100. to have it replaced in case of another mishap.

I've had one previous G for 3800 miles and I never needed that plastic thing. Your car being new, that plastic thing hasnt stuch 100% so removing both sides might be benefitial. That scratch there must be 1ce in a 100000. Besides, if you dont wax with care, you get that area with a white outline.

A scratch there would be rare, but your tires kick up stones, sand and what not that can easily chip your paint there. They're there for a reason.

Yea - I agree, it's definitely a weird spot to have a scratch / rub. I'm going to the dealer on Wed. to get a quote to replace. If the cost is inexpensive I'll just bite the bullet and be safe vs. sorry. All the replies are appreciated. I'll post the cost that I'm quoted to the thread mid-day on Wednesday.

I just received my Zaino ultra kit - so I'll be busy (carefully) waxing this weekend.

Do most people leave those side protectors on? They are a pain when it comes to waxing... I'm tempted to remove.

Every G I've ever seen has them. I gather some remove though as it is / will be a pain to wax around.

Actually, I don't think it's a pain to wax around; I wax right over it, and, if need be (rarely however), I just use a soft bristled tooth brush to remove the wax around the edges.

Perma plate is just a sealant / wax coating applied by the detailing department at the dealership. The piece you have on the rear wheel arch is paint protection film. If the scratch is not that deep, it can be buffed out. Or if your local detailer charges too much to have it buffed out, you could just have it replaced.
