maybe you're driving too hard to try to hear the sound and thus burning more gas than you were before.

I have question regarding the K&N only. Does anyone know if the K&N allows more crap into the engine? Greater airflow = larger filter holes = larger particles = engine damage? Granted, the K&N has an oil that supposedly 'traps' the larger particles but K&N's web site even warns not to use their filters in high dust areas. Uh, if the filter can't filter out the larger particles and is letting more crap in, doesn't that put our bulletproof 3.5's in danger? Also, I've read where the oil can blow off the filter and clog the MAS. Anybody had this experience? Thanks!

Wow, the Z tube is like a cult mod. we do it because it is a simple mod and only costs 70 bucks. It looks different. I like the whistle my popcharger makes. The motordyne spacer kicks ***. I want the 350EVO gears. that I think woul dmake a big difference without going FI and would probably reduce my times by more than that of 800 dollar headers. Or a thousand dollar custom exhaust. Lots of stuff you can do to these cars. Z tube is fun, horse power gain... are you kidding. the popcharger, maybe a little something to the wheels, looking at 7... that is pretty good for 150 bucks, which is what I paid for the tube and charger combined. I'm happy. the spacer was probably about the same $ per WHP.

I have a 2003.5 Coupe AT, I see two different part numbers, which one do I buy for my car? 33-2031-2 or 33-2259?

Please contribute a valid technical argument supporting your claim.

Here is my input on why it does help fuel economy:

If you have a dirty air filter, it will decrease gas milleage by restricting your airflow to your engine(nobody disputes this.. it's a fact). Having the restrictive stock intake pipe and the more restrictive(yet, still clean) paper air filter will have a similar effect to having a dirty air filter... it restricts the efficiency of air flow to your engine, thus detracting from both power and fuel efficiency. By adding the Z-Tube and a clean K&N filter, you are removing the restriction of the stock intake setup... thus freeing up about 5-7 WHP and... from what I personally have seen, gaining about 5% in fuel efficiency in combined driving(city/highway).

If by adding a Z-Tube and K&N filter, people are able to gain about peak 6-7 HP at the wheels... that means they are getting an estimated 8-8.5 peak HP gain at the crank(a gain of about 3%). This seems reasonable... 3% HP gain, 5% fuel economy gain. The Z-Tube and K&N filter makes your engine run more efficiently.... not just put out more power.
