I had mine short ram for a couple days because the guy that sold it to me forgot the bolt with the rubber bushing on it.

Honestly? I'm going back to short ram. The performance gain with it in the fender well compared to in the engine bay is almost unnoticable. I am either going to go all the way short ram or modify my stock intake box to house the filter in. When it was installed short ram the exhaust was LOUD after 3.5K and now it sounds almost like stock until almost 5K. If I'm not going to get any performance difference I might as well go the way that makes me louder

Yep. I think all you did was modify it from a CAI to a short-ram. Other than possibly sucking in a little hotter air, there shouldn't be any change.

should i worry about the bypass valve at all?....especially if i drive to houston where it constantly rains?

you wont need the bypass valve with that setup. you only need it if you attached the other pipes and mounted the filter lower.

then the bypass valve would go where you have the filter now.

yep that's what it looks like and then dips down. Should I just go ahead and keep it the way it is now or should i go all the way for CAI? If I do, is it suggested that the bypass valve be installed also?

if you go the CAI way then the bypass valve is a must, since it will be your only protection from water getting in. if i were you, i would leave it as is.
