6MT Question

I got my coupe yesterday and cant stop myself from driving it. It has been 2 yrs since ive driven a manual and the only manuals ive driven have been my Bros Audi TT and a friends corolla. have a few questions about stuff ive never noticed on the manuals ive driven.
1) in the manuals ive driven if i let go of the clutch in first gear when the speed is below 5mph...it will stall the engine. its doesnt do that in the coupe unless it comes to a complete stop, which totally suprised me.
2)Also i got my coupe with 9 miles on it and noticed a slight burning smell....more or less the clutch. its is usual during the initial break in. i feather it a bit sometime on 1st and 2nd.

Re: 6MT Question

Congrats on your new Coupe bro.
The tranny gear ratios are quite aggressive hence no stall when clutch engaged at low speed.
A common issue with these new rides is that burning smell. It's prolly not the clutch but rather a coating on the exhaust pipes burning off. Doesn't last more than a week or so, so don't worry about that. Enjoy dude and G/L.....

Re: 6MT Question

to confirm what Gsedanman said, it is a sulfur coating to protect the exhaust system from the 2 months of shipping at sea
It goes away after 2 weeks

Re: 6MT Question

The car doesn't stall because of the copeous amounts of torque that we get with our cars. Basically, the high power at idle allows the car to move rather than stall out like a weaker engine would do. Think of it in these terms....you have a goat and an ox pulling a cart which weighs 3000 pounds, if you start both of them at a walking pace, which one will pull the cart with ease? Now if you took both power sources and gave them a running head start, both would move the cart.

Dumb analogy? YUP! But its the best way to give you the vision of what happens.

Re: 6MT Question

Man all this talk about 6MT makes me wish I had gotten it rather than the 5AT. I drove my friends gf's manual car and regret i didn't go manual. sigh

Re: 6MT Question

For me the M/T would be fun once in a while. I've got the A/T and glad I did. I guess basicly I'm a lazy SOB.

Re: 6MT Question

I hear ya bro. If my Coupe were a second or third ride, I'd have chosen the manual. More fun and even quicker......

Re: 6MT Question

When it's Manual vs. Auto, you gotta ask yourself this:

Would you rather Drive or Steer? Nuff said.
