TL owner looking to switch
TL owner looking to switch
Hi folks. I own an 04 TL 6MT. Due to some quality issues I am considering trading it in or selling it and getting a G35 coupe 6MT.
Can you all let me know (or guide me to the correct place in the forum) if the G35 has any known quality issues - things like rattles, fading dash, driveline vibration, etc...
Any help will be appreciated.

Im pretty sure that my dealer said that the only almost routine "problem" people were having was the sunroof squeeking. Its a quick fix that you can even do yourself, but any Infiniti dealer will just fix it right up for you.
Other than that, I dont have any problems with my car.
I would have gotten the TL, but unfortunately it was wrong wheel drive.

For me, the only problem has been the head unit (I'm going on head unit #3). There is a clarion/blose problem that Infiniti has an active TSB on. Apparently they're on fix #2, which isn't any better than fix #1.
Other than that, a few rattles are all I've experineced in 20,056 miles.
(All of which have been easily fixed by me.)

At 4K miles, no rattles here. But driveline vibration is common in the G also. Although, being 5'5", my seatbelt rubs the leather on the seat just behind my shoulder. That makes a strange clicking sound all the time. Infiniti should know better than to have anything rub againts leather. Most other cars have a plastic guide to protect the leather from the seatbelt, even my old Grand Am had that.
With all that aside, no "buyers remorse" here. And I'm a picky ***** when it comes to build quality/integrity of cars.

You'll feel right at home with the G's.

Rattles are common on the G (unfortunately), but they are minor. As far as drivetrain vibrations, well, if you're planning on getting a stick, be advised that the shifter in the G is directly connected to the gear - which means vibes on the shifter, I personally like it, gives you this "connected" feel with the car, others like it less.
Above all, I recommend you to test drive one and see if you like how it drives. I don't think you'll be disappointed.
Good luck.

Sorry to hear about your problems with the TL, I was having a hard time choosing between that and the G, but I finally picked the G and picked it up last friday after 3 weeks of waiting. Well worth it.
you wont have any rattle problems with the '05s besides maybe the seat belt arm hitting the sides. Definitely trade and get the coupe its like night and day. I mean do you want a 45 year old drivers car or a young looking sport coupe which blows it out of the water. UUhhh thats a no brainer.
Why hasn't someone designed a drivetrain using a manual tranny and put a lockable torque converter between the flywheel and the clutch. That would allow us to sit in traffic in first or second and just press the gas like an auto with a converter, and then flip a switch to lock the converter and drive it like a manual when we want.
Rattles pretty much given up on it I just drown the sound from my radio. Radio I can drown most noise until it gave up on me CD got stuck and won't play. Power window went out while trying to order in a drive thru. Brakes keep on squeaking replaced twice and it still squeaks gave up on it as well. Other than that I love the car.
