Re: 350z-G35 cpe HP difference in

Hey guys,
Ever noticed that both engines have the same redline (horsepower = torque x rpm)???
or how both engines have the same torque max rpm (4800)???
or how they both have the same hp max rpm (6200)???
Do you think it would be possible using the same engine (VQ35) to just "translate" the entire torque and power curves perfectly "upwards".
Not possible. Marketing ploy to uphold the image of the Z. Has anyone read the G test v RX-8 v SVT Cobra- the G posts a better zero to 60 than their Z previously, despite the extra "girth"??? Easy to explain actually- supple suspension helping put the SAME power to the ground.

Cheers,
Derek

As far as i know the Offical claim from Nissan is that he Z has a freer flowing exhaust then the G35

Definitely a marketing ploy to hype the image of the Z as a true "Sports Car" vs the G "Sports Coupe".

You will get 1 - 5 hp difference between two dyno runs for the same car just 5 minutes (cool down period) apart. What you do is run dynos until you get two runs back to back that have just 1-2 hp difference. Then you select whichever dyno run shows the higher hp as your baseline. Usually the last is not the best since that is when you know you've "dialed in" the car to the dyno.

Also, no two engines are the same off the same assembly line.

Unfortunately for me my G35c has a crank hp of 273.25hp. This was confirmed by doing multiple baseline runs on two different Dynojet dynos by two different "tuners" in two different cities just 4 days apart. (I didn't believe the results of the runs done on the first "tuner's" dyno. The 2nd "tuner's" dyno showed the same results. This "tuner" told me that differences in hp between identical cars are to be expected.)

When I added the Stillen catback exhaust I got a 12.125hp increase bringing my G's hp to 283.375 hp.

So now My G's numbers are up to Infiniti's/Nissan's BS marketing specs.

Re: 350z-G35 cpe HP difference in

what was your RWHP? when you factor the increased loss a 5AT will give you 220-229 should be your range.

BTW Not to repeat myself, but the intake and exhausts are different. I havent been under a G35, but the intake in the G is much more restrictive (and quieter!!) - heck it has a resonator!

ALso, I think a 7HP diff is a pretty *weak* marketing "ploy" - but thats just me. 20HP - thats something....7? no. Just to play devils advocate...is the 20HP diff btw the coupe and sedan real? or a "ploy"?

Re: 350z-G35 cpe HP difference in

well according to your restrictive exhaust theory applied in that scenario ... I have to say real ... but that would mean the z has seven horse on the G .. no neccessarily ... the sedan 20 less ??? not necessarily .. just like the same z's tested in one day had 220 and the other 240 something..

who knows really.. its a variable that cannot be measured on a whole ... only individually.

PERIOD

and ... "sayonara"

The exhaust is not different on a G35, only longer (7 or 8"). The resonator, muffler and Y pipe are the same and pipe diameter is the same (2.25"). Should not restrict power compared to the "Z". (I did however build a dual system for my 6MT coupe). The intake is another story, it does have a resonator. I have ordered the Z's tube intake to replace that, and should have it next week.

Re: 350z-G35 cpe HP difference in

Baseline RW HP: Dyno # 1 - 216.4; Dyno # 2 - 218.6;
Baseline RW Ft/Lb: Dyno # 1 - 253.0; Dyno # 2 - 218.4;

Stillen exhaust RW HP: Dyno # 2 - 228.3;
Stillen exhaust RW Ft/Lb: Dyno # 2 - 255.0;

I didn't feel the need to go back to Dyno shop # 1 since I got the same numbers from Dyno shop # 2 who is 50 miles closer to home and charged $15 less.

Note also that the ridiculous torque numbers are due to how an automatic torque convertor works and how one executes a Dyno run/record. (Baseline runs at Dyno shop # 2 did catch the "flash" of the AT but I kept those runs which didn't show the spike. Note that the best Stillen run at Dyno shop # 2 does have the AT's torque spike.)

Baseline run Dyno shop # 1:

Baseline run Dyno shop # 2:

Stillen Exhaust run Dyno shop # 2:

No, I'm not replacing the airbox, since it's already a CAI. I have, however, put a K&N Filter in it.
