350z-G35 cpe HP difference in

Im in the process of ordering a G35 coupe and i was wondering what causes the difference in the 7 HP loss compared to the 350z. I dunno if this has been asked but i tried a search and couldnt really find it. Sorry if this is a repeated question.

Re: 350z-G35 cpe HP difference in

Me thinks it is just marketing thing. They try to make 350z look more sportier by publishing +7 hp. From car to car and from run to run I'm sure there is more HP fluctuation than 7 hp. Maybe Z has a bit less drivetrain loss cuz its shorter distance to the rear wheels.

My questions is whether the ECU fuel map on G35 coupe is same as that of 350z.

Just buy an Intake and boom.. you'd have more HP then the 350z now...

The Injen add's 14hp... and that's just the intake...

i believe the reduced HP come from the Z having a better stock intake our stock intake is fairly retrictive. but thats just my thoughts i could be totaly wrong

Easy... when the marketing department at Nissan typed up the specs, they put 287 instead of 280. In my opinion, its a pure marketing gimmick. I bet you can take 100 engines off the line and dyno them and see more difference between them than that.

Its a combination of the G having a more restrictive stock intake and drivtrain losses. To my knowledge the Z's Carbon Fiber Driveshaft makes a tiny difference in terms of driveline efficency - but that shouldnt matter - as manuf publish crank HP anyhow. So yeah, if you get an intake, ANy intake, it ought to free up some horses. Mind you, with the Z, due to its stock intake *basically* being a CAI, you have to get a GOOD intake or else you can *lose* power (Poof!).

That said, be mindful of changing your intake - I had a nice CAI on my 97 prelude that sounded great at first, but 4 years later, I really grew tired of the noise. Its 7HP...deal.

Before I bought my 6MT G35C I test drove a 350Z just to make sure I was doing my homework. I noticed the engine noise (from the front, not the exhaust) seemed much louder than the G35's. I assumed it was because of less sound insulation for weight reduction. Maybe it was the intake. Maybe both...

Re: 350z-G35 cpe HP difference in

there is absolutely no difference, just nissan marketing ploy. The '02 altimas were rated at 240hp while the '02 maximas were rated at 255hp, but dozens and dozens of dynos later, it's confirmed they put down the same whp. Guys over at maxima.org were in an uproar about this for months, but alas not much you can do. Its the same thing with the trans am and camaros vs the corvettes, gm underrated the former not to upset corvette owners.

maybe true...I wouldnt be surprised at all.

However, if you *actually* pop the hood and looked you may notice a couple of differences.
