Putting iPod in my G
Putting iPod in my G
OK I know this has been discussed a million times already, but that's the problem - there're so many posts that I just can't find what I need. So please help! I spent a lot of time researching already but I'm still not sure about some things.
First, is there a DIY post here?
Second, what exactly do I need? Just PAC-NIS, or do I need SWI-X as well???
Third, where do I go buy it?
This is my VIN number: JNKCV54E43M224143 and I'm pretty sure I have Satellite pre-wired (looked before). I do have the stock navigation system. What are the limitations of going this route? Will I be limited to a certain number of playlists, etc.? Is the navigation (of the iPod) using the factory interface adequate? I just ordered a 60GB iPod photo and it's on its way.... any help would be much much appreciated!!! Thanks!!!

I just installed the Peripherals PXNI (http://www.discountcarstereo.com/detail.aspx?ID=754) earlier this morning. It works just like the PAC-NIS, even looks like it too, but it can be installed on cars equipped with the SAT button. I dont have the satelite radio, but the head unit is satelite ready. Installation is the same as the PAC-NIS prcedure listed on the DIY section, or go here http://g35ipod.com/installHW.php?skin=1 The sound quality is great, much better than the cassette adapter

What about the G's that don't have satellite option? Is there another way to hard wire it? Any aux or splicing you can do to the amp? Right now I am just using the Tape but I would like to hard wire it since it would sound better.
For those looking for FM transmitter option - non-hardwire - this news just came out. I have one and it does actually provide good sound quality.
Kensington Digital FM Transmitter/Auto Charger for iPod
http://www.ipodlounge.com/index.php/...for-ipod-ipod/
”For months, we’ve inserted a warning into every FM transmitter review we’ve published: use an FM transmitter only if you
have no other iPod-to-stereo connection options, and don’t expect the sound to compare in clarity or quality to any
wired connection. Today, that warning’s on the verge of extinction: Kensington’s Digital FM Transmitter/Auto Charger
($79.99, street price $53 and up) delivers wireless audio quality that’s as close as we’ve heard to a wired connection.
As it’s integrated with a car charger, it also recharges your iPod’s battery at the same time.”

Regardless of what people say im a pretty big ausiophile and the tape adapter sounds a hell of a lot better than fm transmitter (i used one for a month or so) and It sounds very close to CD. Here is some pics of my setup. Credit goes to XCELR8, this was his design, which I used (and got permission and tips making it to
)
Its angled toward the driver just a tad but the passenger can still read it if needed, I took the pics from the passenger seat.
The access wire from the tape is prefectly tied up with a zip tie and stuck up above the cig lighter. When your sittin in the car their is no mess of wires, it sounds great, and it was cheap and easy to do.
The brackets are made from coathanger after I got them to fit properly I sanded them down and painted them black.

IS300: That install is probably the cleanest that I've seen for a cassette adapter. I saw XCELR8's set up and liked it however, I could not see how the Ipod is supposed to seat into the hanger. It looks like your Ipod slides into a white mount that attaches to the hanger. Could you explain the set-up more? If this question takes the post off-topic, just PM me. Thanks.
