5th Gear Grindinggg!!! Wtf

I have an 04 6mt and last two or three days during aggressive driving mostly, when I try and do a quick shift from 4-5th car wont go into 5th without a huge grinding noise and jamming it into gear. now people will say you have to use the clutch, obviously i know that. im pretty good with stick and have driven it for a while etc. car has 26k miles on it. But even if im not driving and the car is just sitting and I want to show someone what it sounds like, all i have to do it attempt to put it in 5th, and it makes the same exact noise. Loud grinding noise like many nooby MT drivers im sure do. I took it to a tranny shop and they said it seemed like the tranny synchros in 5th were messed up. any ideas? covered under warrantee right? any help is appreciated. thanks

Yep, that sounds like the problem. I'm sure you have read about the numerous 6MT tranny problems on the board, and they are all similiar. Take a trip to the dealer and I'm sure they will replace it for you.

Lots of similar issues. Shouldn't be any problem with a warranty replacement.

thanks. so it sounds like a whole tranny replacement? also, is the tranny always notchy? ive driven a few bmw's and theyre just so freakin smooth. the shifter just slides into place. i love that. if it is replaced, will it be like that? or will it still be the amazing notchy shifting?

Awhile ago someone said to change the transmission fluid and it makes the gates feel a lot more defined. It's worth a shot. But if you get a new tranny make sure you put a few miles on it first, otherwise there wont be shavings of metal in the fluid and it wont help.

just flush the fluid and put the same kind of fluid back in? or upgrade to a synthetic fluid or what? i guess getting a new tranny is the best idea? no sense in fixing it i guess...

new trannies are stubborn in my experience. it usually takes 5k-10k miles to
loosen it all up.

My 5th and 6th use to be a real biatch, but lately she's been real nice. (8.5kmiles).

damn really 5-10k miles? thats a lottttt. how did dealer go about replacing the tranny? Did you have to go in multiple times? or did they realize it was messed up the first time you went in?

i made an appointment at Santa Monica Infiniti for Tuesday 930 AM. Hopefully all works out well. its pissing me off tho. I have to double clutch every time to go into 5th, when shifting from 4th. But if im going from 6th to 5th, even if i double clutch, it still grinds like a **** and people turn and look like wtf is wrong w/ his car?

it really does suck to drive like that. everytiime i go into 5th and I hear that i just cringe. Cant really stay off the highways, i live in Los Angeles, nothing is close enough to take streets. but i guess all the traffic helps me stay out of 5th. but i was wondering, does the grinding hurt the transmission at all?
