Thanks others for your responses..it really has helped, I realized it is just a car and I will just be carefull to who I park next to. Sh*t happens and all you can do is be more careful. I just hope theres another G owner in the complex so I can park next to him.

It's just a car after all, it won't melt outside.
agreed. it matters more about the surrounding area.

I go to UCF in Orlando. Its a generally shady area. I parked my car outside in a carport for a year now and never had any problems **knocks wood**. I do also have an aftermarket alarm, but never even had a problem with that going off. i mean, its kind of hte luck of the draw, some people in really nice areas get messed with and some people in shady areas don't. But i just recently moved from that place and now have a double garage all too myself . I do love it due to my car staying cleaner and having room to wax it all pretty and stuff. I mean honestly, its all change, but you can lower your chance by getting a garage. if its an option for you, i strongly reccomend it, but no garage does not always mean you WILL get messed with. Anyways, good luck to you and I wish you the best.

i say the matter really depends on the individual stalls
i used to have an apartment in huntington beach and it had a spacious carport where i can open the doors almost to the max both ways without touching the other cars.
also, like someone else said worrying about parking in a carport is just like at the mall; it doesn't matter where you park, if there's someone who doesn't care your car is going to get dinged regardless.
you're just rolling the dice like everyone else; maybe you'll get lucky, maybe you won't....
fooboy- if you're looking for cheap rent or mortgage, stay away from cali lol
gas prices here will be hitting 3 bucks soon, and that's only for 91 octane (already at $2.80 now in some places)

Mine is parked outside in my own spot at my condo complex. The neighborhood isn't the greatest. I've got a good alarm, a car cover, an autolock, two sets of wheel locks(when I had my volks). Get to know the people who park next to you and be nice to them. They will respect your ride. Don't leave anything worth stealing in the cabin in plain sight(this includes loose change).
No dings or scratches. I would love to shoot those damn pigeons though.
The day I took it home, my roomie said "man, people are going to think you're selling drugs..." LOL

IMO, if your parents are paying for your car while you're at college then living in an apartment fine. After college, if your G is paid for (by the parents) you should be saving every penny you have for a condo or house, hopefully with a garage.
Another scenario: If you are living in an apt. and you are making your own car payments, again IMO, you should be driving a less expensive car and saving the extra money toward the down payment on a house or condo. Everyone reading this post knows that this is good financial advice. You might not like hearing this because it doesn't fit your present lifestyle, but it's sound financial advice. 15 or 30 years from now, you'll be glad you decided to skip the G when the roof over your head is all yours.
Just my 2 cents.

I park my G35 usually in the driveway, unless my dad or sister ****** the spot(Although when i spend the night at my girlfriend's, her parents are nice enough to let me park it in their garage ). Anyway, there are times when I do have to park in the side streets and to this day *KNOCKS ON WOOD*, nothing has happened. Now, the parking lot at my dump of a community college... one dinged passenger door and a ding above my driver's side wheel (luckily, they are small and not very noticable).
My best advise is to check the neighborhood. If there are other decent cars on the block, you should be okay. Otherewise, you might be a target.

I live in a good neighborhood, but just the thought of the snow/birds/trees dumping **** on my car bothers me. I have a condo with a secure underground garage in the Chicago area. Its a large garage, but the spots are all reserved for each owner and well spaced. I honestly think its even safer than a single garage because everyone is familiar with the other owners that park by you, and they always keep an eye on anyone who they don't recognize. There's alot of appts/ condos that have underground parking. Its usually cheaper to rent a condo with a spot rather than get an appt and then rent a spot; I would look around. I wouldn't want to park this type of car outside...
