After reading these posts I think I am doing really really good. Even though I drive my car like a sports car.. I get 19 something in the city and you guys wont believe how much I got on Interstate - 87.... 26.3 for almost 150 miles. That day I was so happy that my sweetie is not that bad.

You can see the fuel efficiency in the Navigation system and I was closely following it.

I noticed that on highways if you put your car on cruise for one fixed speed (ofcourse you cant put it less then 80 mph ).. you can definately get more mileages.

it must have been a very long hill you were driving down. but seriously, I am guessing you got you mpg number from the nav computer and not by actually measuring the amount of gas you used and the miles you drove.

nav fuel computers are normally off by a bunch. try writing down your milage when you fill up then do the same the next time you get gas. divide the gallons into the miles and you will get your miles per gallon.

I drive about 75% highway and 25% city and I get 21.5 to 21.8 mpg I normally get 360+ miles out of a tank of gas. I normally put in between 16.5 and 17 gallons when i fill up.

WTF!?
I get 350-360 a tank in the city. 21-22 mpg. Highway to Dallas and back this past weekend got 25 mpg. 275 for half a tank.

I'm on a tear this week with fuel economy.

I've been babying my car decently to see how good I can get for milleage over a one tank-of-gas interval. If I let my car go down to the point where the Nav tells me I need to get gas(which is really when you have 3 gallons left), I will eclipse the 500 Mile marker on one tank. I'm currently at 26.9 MPG, and I do only about 1/4 of my driving on the highway lately.

Unfortunately, i will not let the tank get low enough to actually go 500 miles... for fear of sucking up the junky gas at the bottom of the tank.

I check mine everytime...and my nav is within 10ths of a mile every time. I've been doing this for the last 4000 miles.

I decided to baby the **** out of my car this week, just to see how good I could get the milleage to be.
Measuring the mileage based on the fuel tank gauge is a waste. You will never be close to getting the correct reading.

Best method is to fill the tank, 0 the trip meter and when you fill her up the next time calculate the mileage based on the trip reading and how much you pumped to fill it again.

on the drive down from illinois to texas, i drove 390 and some fraction of a mile before filling up 16.2 gallons. i guess that's slightly over 24 MPG. ~100% of that mileage was on the highway (other than gas station to highway and highway to gas station). i was averaging approx. 90 MPH. good thing i was driving through arkansas (gas was only 2.30)!! =)

To get the most accurate mileage, use the SAME pump each time and set the spigot to the lowest setting and let it shut itself off. Don't top it off. There are lots of tricks to getting better mileage, the biggest gains are in the way you drive. If you run straight highway with the air off and stick to 55 or 60 (how could you stand it! ), I have no doubt that you can get close to 30 mpg or more.

I've been averaging about 20 MPG on my G35C but it's only about a month old. Do you guys find your gas mileage improving over time. My Audi TT for example went from an averge of 22 MPG when it was new to a high of 26 MPG when I had around 15K miles on the odometer.
