Am I Getting Ripped off??

I've been doing some searching for the past half hour looking for ideas on what people have paid to have an aftermarket pre-painted spoiler installed and it seems that everyone wanted to PM what they paid or how much they would charge. Seeing how I was recently in an accident and my car is at a body shop, I brought the spoiler down to them to install it. They just faxed me over a work order and they want to charge me 5 hours of labor for a total charge of $160. I think this sounds way high seeing how its pre painted and they only have to drill a few holes and tap into the brake light wiring. Am I wrong?

Doesn't sound too outrageous, but don't forget that everything is negotiable. Tell them you'll pay them for 4 hours of labor (or whatever). Don't be a jerk about it, but just say that is what you are willing to pay.

I won't comment on the $160.00, but the 5 hrs. of labor does seem extremely high. What if they had said $80.00/hr. for a total of $160.00?

If you can see clear to spend the Cashola . . . Then you're done when your G rolls out of the shop versus either shopping around or installing it yourself.

The labor rate sounds too low for a body shop. But the $160 sounds right on.

I'm inclined to agree that the labour rate sounds wacked, but the $160 sounds ok.

Not bad, I was told that my local Infiniti dealer charges $140 (1.5 hours of labor) to install the front chin spoiler. But about $100 sounds more in the ballpark for the spoiler if that's an independent shop.

Yeah, its an independant shop. I'm just going to have them do it for the convenience factor. $146. for the spoiler and $160 for the install, still much cheaper than the dealer wanted for one.
