Satellite Radio Help/Questions

I am looking to buy an aftermarket satellite radio from Best Buy this weekend because they are having a nice sale on several of their units. I was wondering how the installation is handled. I know that our cars come prewired for satellite radio, so my questions are:

Where does the antenna and unit get installed?

Will I have to power the unit through the cigarette lighter?

Will there be any affect to reception of the unit if I also have an aftermarket portable GPS system in the car?

If any one can provide any insight/pictures, that would be great. Thanks in advance!

If you're not going to change out your entire stereo, I would suggest buying the factory SAT tuner.

GPS wont affect radio reception at all.

SAT tuner will go next to spare tire, antenna can go anywhere you want as long as it can see the sky....

Any idea how much parts and labor will cost for that? Also will there still be a monthly fee involved?

Yes there will be a fee no matter what...factory SAT tuner is very easy to install.

As long as your car SAT ready, you can probably do it yourself.

A monthly fee is still involved along with activation. I'm not sure how much is activation though.

Be careful... that SAT ready probably means that the guts of the car will accomodate the radio receiver installation in the belly of the beast. You cannot just use that stuff to run aftermarket SAT radio... I also believe the antenna, antenna cables and all wiring are installed as part of the factory kit and not present there from the factory.

If your car is SAT ready, you will have unused wire harnesses in the trunk next to your spare tire.

Just plug in the tuner box, connect the antenna, and you're good to go...

Does the antenna the works with the Delphi SkyFi compatible with the Factory receiver unit? The receiver available from Grubbs and others comes with the Infiniti antenna, but it is big and ugly compared to the micro antenna used on the SkyFi. However, I gotta believe that an adapter of some sort will be required in order to plug into the factory receiver. Anyone with experience on this?
