Where to shop for winter tires

I got my G35 C last January w/ OEM 18" and summer tires. And right away I realized what kind of problem I got myself into. 1 week after getting the car I already can't get out of my garage because of a snow storm and guess what, all the good winter tires I want were out of stock for the season.

So this winter I'm going to get myself ready early. I've already got a set of 17" x 7 OEM rims off ebay that I plan to use for winter. Any one has a suggestion on where to find discounted price for good 17" tires like Dunlop Winter Sport M3 or BridgeStone LM22? These tires are so expensive so I am trying to find the best price. Appreciate any helpful advices.

www.tirerack.com

I've bought several tires from www.tirerack.com, it costs nothing to go to their web-site and plug in your specs. And I've found they always beat the prices at any local tire shop.

...plus they have great customer service - and you can e-mail or phone them for more information...

disclaimer - I DO NOT work for TireRack.com!

On a side note - I just bought a new '05 G35 Coupe - and just checked tirerack.com for a winter tire package (wheels + rims). There are none available yet. There is apparently a problem fitting the steels wheels and the large brakes. Hopefully by Oct/Nov/Dec, they will have a somthing available.

I used Tirerack also and was very happy. Last year I lost a couple of the lugnuts for my winter rims and they immediately sent out a few new ones at no cost.

Steel wheels? Go with 17in wheels for winter packages.

They don't have the 05 packages loaded yet but you can just look up the 04 6mt and decide from there. The fitments are the same.

I went with the 17in ASA JH3 wheels with dunlop wintersports and they worked out great this past winter.

steel or alloy...

I just spent $500 on a clearbra - so Just trying to save a few bucks...that's all. I'm not promoting them for any other reason.

I also had the Dunlop Winter Sports on my previous 328i -- great tires. I will definately buy them again if in-stock.

I got a set of '03 OEM 17" wheels from someone here and when I add the Dunlop Winter Sports I'll be well under the cost of the wheel/tire setup from Tirerack. Although I'll for sure go with Tirerack when it's time for the tires. I've bought every tire I've put on a car for the last 10 years from them. Very helpful and great prices!

Plus going with OEM tires you've got no worries with fitment!

tires only!

Didn't mean to imply that you must by a wheel/tire combo. Tirerack.com sells Tire-only also...you can price them out either way. You can buy the tires from tirerack - drop-ship them to your installer. And get them mounted/balanced locally.

And if you find a cheaper tire-only price somewhere else - tell the forum - I'm sure we'd all like to know.l
