G45, Why not?

Ok as many of you know Infiniti has the new FX35/45 a very cool crossover suv that has lots of cool gizmos on it, and you probabally also know that it is based on the same FM platfom as the G/Z... so now my question is what is keeping InfinitI from building a G45? I say absoultly nothing.

Now in its Q45/M45 the motor makes 340hp, just think of that motor in the G If Infiniti did this there would be the first real compititon for the Corvette and the M3

I am drooling just thinking about this

Re: G45, Why not?

I mentioned this a while back when I first joined the board. I thought it was a great idea. However, some people mentioned a few issues. One - The affordability of the vehicle would be gone becase of the price increase. Two - The power to wieght ratio might not be as good as say a turbo or Super Charged V6. Three - The G coupe would become the most unstoppable power in the universe next to Darth Vader. Ok. I made the last one up. I think it would awesome to see if it would work. Hmmm... Maybe if I win the lotto I'll try! Also do you think the M45 engine would fit? I know the mounts are the same but wouldn't they have to do some fender and hood stretching? I like the idea though... Peace.

Re: G45, Why not?

Why not? Because the V8 was developed to give smooth torquey acceleration, not sports car speed. The V6 would be better fitted to a more pumped up G. Turboing it or compression, computer or other enhancements would better fit a car that could handle as well as it accelerates. There's no way the V8 would give decent handling. If they are going to uise the V8 in a sports car setting, you'll see an entirely new car, probably along the lines of the Mercedes SL55 or BMW Z8. Then you're talking BIG $$$.

Personally, I wouldn't want that car. I'd rather take the flingable G over an overweight V8. The lighter G would have better gas mileage, better handling, easier insurability and would be more of a sports car than a V8 tourer.

However, anyone that wants to throw a V8 in his coupe will have my interest. But I'll easily run circles around him in the twisties. And I'd bet that the money wasted on a V8 installation would be better spent on turbos, a complete engine building or ANOTHER CAR! For the extra money, there's an M3, S4 or other cool toys.

Re: G45, Why not?

A G45 would not interest me personally. But the 4 wheel drive version of the FX35 sure would. Can anyone tell me why this could not be done? I mean both the G35c and the FX35 has the same engine and the same 280 HP output so why is this still not offered? AWD is a must in my mind when you have to deal with snow. Everyone say this car is great but when it really snows, the truth is, it's not and your back always slide when you accelerate (typical to all the RWD cars).

Re: G45, Why not?

Not sports car speed? What? I think the M45 and Q are plenty quick and fast. Now, imagine that in the beautiful and lighter G package.

What I envision would be the perfect Infiniti halo car. A car to compete against the Mercedees SL, the new BMW 6 and the Caddy Evoq. They could make a super GT car in limited numbers with a sticker around $75K. It would be a super ride and give us current young G35 owners something to aspire to.

This car, like the G35 would be more than about sheer straightline acceleration, but about an awesome GT experience.

Re: G45, Why not?

There is already an AWD version of the 4 door G35 sedan in japan. I can only pray that they decide to use that platform, the same as the FX35 uses for some type of AWD G35 super car. I think performance wise though it would still be a more nimble sports performer with the V6 pumped up with a SC or Turbo. Dreams are so nice....

Exactrly. It an all aluminum piece, if memory serves correct. Weight is not an issue. Please build it!

Re: G45, Why not?

If it's only 60 lbs. more, then moving the battery to the trunk would be almost all you'd need to do to keep the weight balance. (Car batteries weigh between 30 and 60 lbs.)

Re: G45, Why not?

There's an excuse for everything when it comes to money, isn't there? I suppose if you built it people would buy it regardless of the small increase.

That's interesting, I didn't know that. Thanks for the info ReDRoK8. This just means that an AWD G35 coupe is totally feasible. I hope that Infiniti/Nissan hear our interest just like BMW, Audi and Mercedes did with their 3-series, A4 and C-class (yes, Mercedes is now offering 4-Matic on it's C-class).

Re: G45, Why not?

Well, we know it's feasible because they have the FX here already. Same platform as the G, so the parts should fit.

Re: G45, Why not?

Yeah the 4.5L V-8 isnt that heavy it has a longer boader torque curve, makes its peak torque a little lower and can rev higher then the 3.5L V-6.

I also dont think that it will be overpriced i mean look at the G35, it has more power, better handleing and more options the every other car in its class and costs way less too. I think that at the most the 'G45' would cost 50-60k and really out perform the M and Vette.

Re: G45, Why not?

We're not just talking a straight carryover into the G are we? Only way I can imagine it is with a "tuned" V8, which will of course rev higher and maybe add another 50-60hp. (while we're at it, why not a round 400hp?)
