lightly modded auto vs stock 6spd, who wins?

i have an 05 AT with 19's, 3/8 spacer and z tube. If i race a buddys 04 stock 6 speed from 0 to 100 lets say, who do you think would win? I know he would get the jump with the launch, but i dont know who would come out on top by the end.

keep in mind his 6 spd is the 280 hp version of the 2004 model.

the 6mt should win considering that your buddy is a good driver ... if he is an average driver ... you should be about the same ... and if he sucks .. then ur a winner

6 speed will win by about a car length

I raced a 6 speed 350z stock, vs my auto g35 with injen intake ...he ended up beating me by 1 car

he should've beaten you by more than one car.. and 6 speed 350z vs g35 is NOT THE SAME AS A 6mt g35 vs AT g35 -.-

if its 6MT G35 vs ATG35 it depends on how long the race is.. if its past +130mph then the 6MT should win cause we get 6 gears and rev slightly higher. however if its around 80-100mph a good drive in an AT should be able to tie or be slightly ahead of an average/below average 6MT 04

now 05s are kinda a different story.. >=D

I have raced a 05 auto G, by 60 i had a 0.5 CL on him. After 2nd the I pulled away nasty, so i think he would have about 2 carlengths on you by 100mph.

Faster shifts if you're dealing with a good driver. Even the current generation SMG, though it looks good on paper, hasn't been proven to be faster than a 6mt...

I think it's because the gearing is different? Thats my best guess.

technically yes, the lower gearing will let it pull harder but you lose some through shift lag.

klumzyee (05 6mt) and i (04 5at - plenum spacer/ztube/pop) have raced plenty of times and the ultimate outcome has always been the same - a tie. now that's with the 05's +18hp and -10tq. i would consider him an experienced driver as well. i have faced a few 04 6mts as well, and have almost always won, but they were all inexperienced drivers.

imo the mt is still awfully overrated.

The big advantage with manual trannies is the launch. Even those auto/manuals like BMW's SMG with its launch option, can't beat an experienced manual tranny driver out of the hole. Now once you are rolling, the advantage goes to SMG because it can execute a shift in a few thousands of a second.

IMO the reson i win is cause MTs can use a clutch instead of brakes to launch.. more control but you're also open to more mistakes. And MTs CAN shift faster then any ATs, and we also have more control of our shift points.. there is a slight lag for the autos on sportshift.. even if you time it correctly an MT driver can just get short shifter to cut down on the time. But the main reason (IMO) that MTs win is cause of our gear ratio.. if i race an AT G35 i'll start pulling from the end of 2nd (5k RPM) and 3rd.. 05 MTs rev higher and that extra gear helps

Manuals also get less parasitic loss since they deal with not torque converter and other parts of the transmission. Overall manual transmissions are more efficent.
