Nav went nuts today

I'm on my way back from Tallahassee and everything's going fine. I pull into a rest area, do my thing, and start driving again. I push the "I agree" button and I get the standard "please wait". After waiting for 5 minutes (the clock was up) I start wondering what's going on. I could get my mileage and my trip computer and all the menus while I was "waiting" but I couldn't get any maps. I tried pushing the screen back down for 15 minutes but when I started it back up I got the "please wait" again.

Here's the weird part. After another 5 minutes or so the screen comes back up. On my screen is the compass, satellite, clock, the red position indicator, and the scale. The rest of the screen is completely black. Oh and the scale was set to 1/32 (?????). I ended up ejecting the disc and re-starting to finally get a map and it picked up on my route guidance from almost an hour prior.

Is my nav system possessed or something?

It's designed to shut down or at least stop working if it overheats dude. Is it possible it overheated?
If not it just had a hissy fit. Talk sweet to her, she'll come around......

I refer to the NAV as my back-seat biotch. She has saved my a$$ many times...

I've seen this type of behavior before, and I think what it is is a glitch with the drive reading the disc. When it happens, I'd try ejecting the disc and reinserting it. If that doesn't work, turn the car off and back on again.

Re: Nav went nuts today

I doubt it had overheated. It was only running for about an hour when this happened. I've been on much longer trips than that with no probs.

I just wanted to share my experience with everyone so if/when it happens to someone else they know it's not totally messed up. The black screen with 1/32 scale was the really strange part.

Re: Nav went nuts today

The only problem I have is that the Map takes a minute or so to come up (instead of a few seconds). I think it does this when it's having trouble finding the satellite signal.

Maybe you were under trees or mountains at the rest stop? Or maybe there were sunspots? lol

Re: Nav went nuts today

My NAV has done this wierd thing twice........The right side of the screen getts all messed up, looks like something from the matrix, it does it for a few seconds and then goes back to normal. Everything else keeps working though so I guess it's not that big a deal. Unless it starts happening more.

Re: Nav went nuts today

I've seen that a few times on mine in the last few months. Altho strange it hasn't happened too often, so I'm not worried.

Re: Nav went nuts today

There is a huge chance that there was a solar storm which can cause huge problems with our satelite. No joke on this it happens all the time the solar winds will block out one of our three satelits and then you will not be able to work the nav. sometimes it will delay the signal causing you to be shown a little off the road when zoomed in all the way, but i gaurentee you it could have had somethin to do with a solar wind. pretty cool i think
