Hitting Curb, Alignment issue
Hitting Curb, Alignment issue
Well, my luck, 2 weeks into owning my New 05 G and some woman hits my rear left panel trying to turn right from the middle lane ( I was in the right lane) Instinct kicked in I guess and i turned right down the street to try and avoid getting hit, but ended up hitting the curb and going over it with my left front tire.
My question is, can a hit like this damage the rim or tire or mess up the alignment...I have taken a look at the rim and tire and they look ok...but who knows...
Any idea from you guys on what kind of internal damage this could cause to a tire or rim?

use these tips at your own risk:
I would raise the front corner and spin the wheel to see if it wobbles.
then I would remove the wheel and inspect any bends on the inside rim.
While the wheel is off the car, I would inspect the suspension for any irregular
bends or damage.
Put the wheel/tire back on the car.
Then take the car out for a spin on a known flat road and see if the car
track straight by pointing the steering wheel at dead noon and let go for
a few seconds, then turn the wheel slightly L and let go for a few seconds
to see if the car tracks L, then turn the wheel slightly R and let go for a
few seconds to see if the car tracks R.
If the car does as above, then your alignment was probably not thrown off.
Then take the car up to expressway speeds and see if you feel any vibration
through your steering wheel.
If not, then your wheel and alignment is probably OK.

I think I'll leave the removing of the wheel to the body shop techs, but afterwards I'll check on the alignment issue using your described tracking method...Thanks so much for your response.
get an alignment just be safe. my mom get rear ended last year and just got the body repaired on her ml320 and now she finds out that the alignment is off and the inside of driver side tires (fr+rear) are worn down to the cords. get an alignment and save yourself 1k in replacing tires.
Dropped off my ride at the Body Shop today, they said they would do the alignment as a standard procedure to see if anything else was wrong with the car...tahanks again for all responses...
