Does your G Seem to Run Hot?

ITS ABOUT DAMN TIME WE HAD SOME SUMMER WEATHER! Anyway, I've been suspecting that our cars ran a little warm, but the heat coming off my baby today was REALLY unreal. I checked the guages twice to see if I was overheating, but I guess not.

So does your G seem to run a little warm?

Re: Does your G Seem to Run Hot?

As a matter of fact....I was going to talk to my dealer about this, it seems that the fan is running almost all the time, it's averaging 90 degrees here everyday, but I don't think the fan should run all the time....maybe it's my thermostat thingy.

I'd be interested in finding out if anyone else is having that problem, or if thats just normal due to the G's freaky nose design that doesn't allow as much air onto the radiator.

Re: Does your G Seem to Run Hot?

The fan runs whenever the A/C is on. I'm assuming you drive with the climate control on "Auto", which at 90 degrees keeps the A/C compressor going to keep you cool. Whenever the compressor is engaged, the electric cooling fan is also on, independent of the coolant temperature. So even if the engine doesn't need the fan on, it stays on anyway because the A/C system needs the fan to work properly. Turn off your climate control, and you will notice the cooling fan is on much less often.

Modern cooling systems are really powerful at getting rid of heat. The fact that you feel a lot of heat coming off the car doesn't mean the car is running hot. You're feeling the car getting rid of the heat rapidly, which is what its supposed to do.

Nope, I run with the windows down and sunroof open. A/C is for women and children!

I wouldn't worry about that unless it registers on your temp gauge. This is a natural phenomenon due to the rear wheel drive shaft going to the back, which creates a lot of heat.

Yeah I don't use the A/C either...that auto-climate thing freaks me out, every time I try to turn it on, it just blows like a **** at me, I get scared and turn it off....I don't know how long it will be blowing at full speed to get that preset temperature that I want (60f in 90f).

Re: Does your G Seem to Run Hot?

In auto mode, it blows for some time to quickly lower the temp to your setting. As it nears that temp, the blower speed decreases to less of a blast.
By setting the inside temp to only a few degrees below what is outside, the blower will operate more slowly. This seems to be normal operation for an auto system.

Re: Does your G Seem to Run Hot?

try running around with just your windows open in texas... i bet you wouldn't last 30 minutes.. AC is necessary here... esp. during the summer.. you ppl up north get media attention if your temp goes into triple digits... that's how it is here for weeks on end down here but we get no media coverage.. but i guess that goes for when we hit in the single digits in the winter.. it's just not usual.

this summer is strange.. june feels like what it should feel like in august.. it's gonna be a really hot summer..

Re: Does your G Seem to Run Hot?

It's happened to me once recently.

I was driving back late at night from San Francisco. The outside temperature according to my car was about 55 degrees. I didn't have A/C unit on at all, but I started to feel like the heater was blowing. It got hot enough that I actually had to turn the A/C on. I'm going to have to keep an eye on that one.

Re: Does your G Seem to Run Hot?

Me thinks that the drag induced by having the windows open and the sunroof "slid back" is more of a "slower downer" thingy than running the A/C with the car sealed up and clean.

And I'm from La...spend a summer down here with no A/C and you'll quickly go back to where you came from.

A/C is a NECESSITY in FL where the temperature always hovers around 95+ degrees and the humidity is mostly at 90%.
