Angry Careless truck

So I was on the freeway today, on my home from work. And some idiot that was driving a truck, with a refrigerator in the bed, didn't feel it necessary to secure anything down. As I changed lanes to pass the truck, the truck decided he wanted to get in the left lane too, and nearly took off my fender.

Right as I was about to scream out of rage, a big tool box flew up out of the bed of the truck Next thing I knew... BOOOOOOOOOOM! Nailed the front of my car dead center.

I thought for sure my front bumper/lip/etc was toast, as that was the most awful sound I ever heard in my life, especially since I was going about 60mph when it happened. I could actually hear the thing drag against the pavement as it was being pushed by my car. I then saw it fly to the side, and saw cars madly swerving out of the way. After briefly chasing down the truck, (which refused to pull over), I just pulled over on the side of the freeway to look at the damage. I was ready to cry.

It looked like my tow-hook-adapter-license-plate took a beating. It looked as if it acted as a deflector shield My plate was completely mangled, and the bracket was broken, and was just barely hanging onto the car. Though I do have a nice softball sized scuff on the bumper skin, but nothing else is broken. I was afraid my bumper was going to be dragging on the ground. I"ll see how much I can buff out.

I guess I'm happy the damage isn't too bad, but I was kinda looking forward to getting an after-market bumper

I HATE THAT!

Years ago the wife and I are merging onto I-295 in Jacksonville FL. There is a little Ford Ranger plowing along with a range in the back. We had followed these guys since they left Sam's Club.

As we're leaving Sam's my wife says "look honey - that jack a$$ doesn't have his new range tied down." I had intended on going around him to be clear, but hadn't had the opportunity to make the pass.

As we leave the merge lane and enter traffic, you guessed it, air gets under the range and turns it into a projectile. It lifted up out of the bed and as soon as it was fully into the airstream it SLAMMED down into the pavement. There was $hit flying everywhere.

Between laughing my a$$ off and dodging debris I survived a visual image that has stayed in my head like it was yesterday. As the range took flight we could see the woman in the passenger side looking out the back window of the little Ranger - her new range airborne. She looked like:

In your case it sucks that the sorry ba$tard in the truck wouldn't stop. No plate number?

At least you survived and the car's damage isn't tremendous.

glad to hear your damage wasn't too severe.

Try to write down the license plate number of idiot drivers if you can or
at least report it to 911 so police can get a description of the bastard.

so if you were driving behind him, why not get the license plate and call up da police? With the super paint Infiniti gives us, you wont be able to buff much. Aftermarket front bumper? Make that idiot pay!

Yeap, same happened to me Sunday on way to my friend's house for some BBQ. This idiot had two whatever 6 feet tools they were in his opened truck bed as I pulled up to him at a red light. Fortunately the light turned green before I got too close as one of that long metal thing came flying out of his bed as he started to move. It would have landed on my hood if I was any closer. Some people don't think.

I actually did get a plate number. I just wasn't sure if the police/insurance would do anything since the guy didn't pull over. Heck, I don't even know his insurance info. I was just going to go to the DMV and see if they'll give it to me.

As for the box, I didn't fetch it, cause it was in the middle of the freeway and nobody was slowin' down

In a sense, you have a hit and run. You HAVE to get a police report! The police would have taken the plate number you gave them, and then traced the tool box back to the owner. They would call or stop by the registered owner of the plates and say something like "hey we found a tool box on the side of the street, is this yours?" (After all who would want to loose valuable tools?) Instead of saying "did your tool box fall out of your truck and hit this guys car", so they wouldn't come out and say no its not mine right off the bat. Once the police had positive evidence the tool box belongs to the truck owner, then you have a case in your hands. You can then take that info right to the owners insurance company and make a claim.
