Driving stick, some quick questions about it...
i've driven stick for about 2 mos total in a friends GTI and learned in an '88 bmw 325e
i have no problems what-so-ever starting the car from 1st, up and down hills and shifting without grinding.
My question is is there other problems that stick drivers have? like when i first got the car, it smelled a bit like clutch, but i dont know if i was riding it and how to prevent that, or if it was just because it was a new clutch.
thanks for your help guys!

yea, the smell tends to be harsh from the exhaust, i noticed it when i was putting on my license plate frame on the car. Thanks for letting me know about that!
Also, sometimes when putting the car into gear, it feels like the car doesn't wanna let me put it in a gear...i have to push a little harder into gear than normal. Is this normal for a new car?

first gear will be like that normally if it is cold or if you are still moving when you try to engage first. I have found that my trans shifts much better now that i have about 7k on the car. I did change the trans fluid at 3k with a mix of redline mt fluids. And the smell is completely normal at least for the first 500 miles or so.

Ok great
also, when i shutdown the car, i'll hear some clanking noise. I read that this may be the clutch chatter which is normal, but i was also thinking that it may be the timing belt? The dealer told me that the g35 has a chain as a timing belt, and when i heard it, i thought maybe it was just the belt?
