I was driving down the road with my ex-girlfriend in the car when a dog ran out in to the road. I had plenty of time to stop - as did the person next to me and the person behind me. We all stopped and waited for the dog to get out of the road. Apparently the person two cars behind me failed to notice that we had stopped because he slammed into the car behind me. The offending vehicle was a full size pick up and the innocent car behind me was a Toyota Corolla. As you might imagine, the truck caused quite a bit of damage.

The truck proceeded to back up, pull around the car it had just hit and gun it down the road. I decided I'd follow the truck just long enough to get the tag number. It took a few blocks to catch up and have my girl write down the tag. As soon as we had that I turned around and went back to the scene. There were two damaged vehicles there and the police had already arrived. I walked up to one of the officers and told him I had the tag numbers. He just smiled and walked me around to the back of the Corolla. The front license plate from the truck was stuck on the truck lid of the car. It was classic.

Beautiful. Great story. If that story could have had a better ending, I don't know what it would be.

Nice idea for a new patent and a law: front license plates that disengage upon impact...

I wish it had when some S.O.B. hit me some years ago.......

In this case, I hope they throw the book at him.

they should make the bumper or rear deck out of some putty like material that will take an imprint of the plate. Or if you have the M or FX, use the little camera to record data to an onboard hard drive. It could have like 3 hours of data stored. If someone hits you, you can just save the data, give it to the cops, otherwise it'll just re-write over itself

I had a guy hit me with a pickup before. He was a real scum bag. First thing he says "I didn't hit you."

I replied "What?!?!?! I can see the numbers from your license plate on my rear bumper!"

Anyone who's been in my situation sincerely appreciates what you did. [thumbsup]
