ipod / passport X50 install *PICS*

Here are some final pics of my x50/ipod hardwiring. I used the belkin auto cable with the pac audio adapter to achieve power and audio-out, hardwiring it onto the switched 12v the cigarette lighter provides. Having one cable for power/audio rocks! I also used the smartwire adapter to hardwire in the X50, the remote is in a very handy spot now. WORD UP TO DRIVING WITH MY ASH TRAY IN THE CLOSED POSITION!

below the radar detector are little 3m rubber feet. I stuck them to the bottom of the radar detector so they would lessen the strain on the suction cups. It also makes the thing not jiggle/rattle.

Where does the y-cable exit under the console?

I have the PAC and have been researching connection options. The Belkin Auto-Kit seemed to be a good solution. I would prefer an unamplified line out connection but the power/audio combo is hard to beat.

Stock deck?

how do you use the iPod? is it just a direct connection to the stock deck? is this hard to do? i just got my G and been dying to hook up my iPod seemlessly to it, instead of using lame radio transmitters... thanks for any info!

Actually the line out that comes from the dock connector on the Ipod is unamplified (adjusting volume on the ipod has no impact on the noise levels), the belkin adapter is what has an amp in it. There's a volume dial on it, which came in handy, because by default the PAC audio's noise levels don't match very well with the default levels. Adjusting this **** will put them in synch, so when you're listening to the iPod and you switch over to radio it won't be any louder or softer.

Basically instead of taking apart the belkin adapter, i just wired in an additional cigarette lighter behind the dash, plugged in the belkin kit, attached the audio, and zip-tied/taped everything down behind the HU.

The belkin adapter plug accepts 12v from a cigarette lighter and audio-in from the PAC audio adapter connected to the HU. When hidden, the only wire visable is the one connecting your HU to the ipod, and it not only charges it and sends out audio, but when you turn off the car it'll pause your iPod.

I did this for a friend, got the belkin "pill" looking car kit. Broke it open, hardwires the audio and power to the PAC unit and just made the docking connector reside in the nav cubby (350z)... works great. Only pain is it makes the player on pause when the car is started back up. If it made it play instead it would be perfect.
