Rotor Replacement at 35,000 Miles
I was told by dealer that my car (G35 coupe with Brembos) will need complete pad and rotor replacement at about 35,000 miles for a parts cost of over $2,600.00. Is this normal, and if so, how have others managed to reduce the cost (after market?, e.g.)?

You can but 4 high performance rotors and pads from EverythingG35.com for under 1000$. Even if you were to get hit for 400$ install from a shop you are only looking at 1400$ for an upgraded braking system.
Now, if you go to Tirerack you can get 4 rotors and pads for as little as
620$.

This will give you an idea of what the retail pricing is out there for replacement parts. I am of the opinion if you are going to put his kids through school, you should at least be able to bone his wife (go somewhere else!).

Many years ago I was a mechanic and the first thing they taught me to do was to upsell. So every time you bring your car in for servicing, you can expect to get a sales pitch for extra work.
As a matter of fact many dealers will advertise very low prices on either tires or an oil change, just to get you in their shop. My wife for example just had her tires replaced and the mechanic told her she needed new rear brake pads and he would be happy to do the job for $250. My wife had the guy call me and I of course told him no since I can do the job myself for around 25% of that price.
This upselling extends to every business. I had a new water heater installed about a year ago that required a 15 amp ckt breaker instead of the 20 that the old one used. The installer tells me that the electrical code requires him to change the breaker and that he would do it for $75. I told him no thanks and that I happened to have a 15 amp breaker which I would install myself before he left. I'm kind of slow so it took me around three minutes to replace the $4 breaker. BTW I heard the guy call his boss on the phone and say something to the effect that the customer wouldn't go for it. I'm willing to bet that I'm the exception to the rule however, and that they get lots of people to pay the ludicrous charges because many people are terrified of anything electrical or mechanical.

My front Brembo pads wore out at 32K. Dealer told me $218 for pads and it would need rotors too for $875. I found high quality ceramic Raybestos pads at Carquest for $38 and cleaned up the rotors with my small die grinder. It stops just as well now as it did before.
Had my pads done by Infiniti at 28k- cost me about $500 for Brembo pads and labor. I told them to do all they could to save my rotors- machine them if at all possible. I had heard they look to change the rotors with the pads, and that it costs what they told you. Don't know if it made a difference, but they were able to machine my rotors. Hopefully my rotors will last through this set of pads, and probably at about 50k I'll need to replace them both- but I'm going to order the parts from elsewhere and try to get Infiniti to install them. We'll see.
