Will the "Nissan Skyline" be a thing of the past

Lexus is going to be in Japan. I'm sure you have all seen the news stories, shortly after Nissan and Honda said they were bringing their lux lines to Japan as well.

Does this mean the Nissan Skyline will disappear as a name forever, will it become the Infiniti Skyline, or just adopt the G35 Badging? Intresting to see what happens.

Anyone else have any thoughts on this?

Hmm... So what's the big deal. Once a skyline always a skyline. Who cares if it's Nissan or Infiniti?

Personally, I like the name "G35" better than "Skyline".

To me, the name "Skyline" sounds like something on the back of a Buick.

I would welcome the name change if it happened.

Another option is that Nissan continues to market the Skyline 350GT as a Nissan and then just market the mega-buck GT-R as the Infiniti. It has been reported that Nissan plans to use only "GT-R" as a designation for the car, dropping the "Skyline" part from that model. This, along with assertions that they will be two distinctly different cars, has me thinking this is the most likely thing to happen.

Keep in mind, this isn't far-fetched, since "Skyline" isn't really the icon name, it's the "GT-R" designation that carries the clout in the Japanese home market.

Since Nissan is introducing Infiniti globally, including Japan. It would seem odd (for brand recognition) to have different names for the same model. I would guess that the G35 will be the G35 everywhere and the Skyline name will no longer be used. As others have stated, it's the GT-R model that everyone thinks of when you hear the name "Skyline".

IMO Skyline is a much better name for the G35. "G35" was derived from marketing executives' stupid obssession to ape BMW and Mercedes. Infiniti would do themselves a huge favor if they replaced the G35 name with Skyline.

No, you mean 'Skylark'.
Man I used to roll one of those. '77 white with red vinyl interior. That was 4500lbs of pure fury (sarcastically).

Name doesn't matter to me either. However I thought it'd be an intresting discussion. I am a Nissan/Infiniti man through and through - name matters little to me.

Lot of history in that name Skyline.
The car was a Skyline before it was a Nissan.
I wouldn't like to see the name dropped.
