Tein Flex and EDFC install, 6 month review (pics)

Hi everyone, I haven't posted about my Tein install/driving impressions, I think I have enough miles on them now to give a solid opinion. I purchased them from Jason at Performance Nissan Parts. It came quickly as promised, they were a pleasure to do business with.

Installation:

I chose Jack Harris at P1Auto(.com) just south of Charlotte NC to install coilovers and EDFC. Jack has a long import racing/car building background, is meticulous and does things the right way, the first time. Pre-tensioning the suspension bolts on reassembly, corner-weighting, etc...

Front EDFC motor box and wire as seen from underhood:

Bringing the car down for the first time:

Rear shock tower box:
This was a pain in the butt. There is an enclosed box of steel at the top of the rear shock towers. We had to cut the EDFC motor wires, put the shock in from the bottom and motor from top, and solder them back together.

EDFC control unit install:
Best place I could think of to install the EDFC unit was in the center storage/glasses compartment. The unit fits perfectly and I am still able to fit glasses into the compartment. With the cover closed the unit is completely stealth.

Wiring up the EDFC:
This was also an involved process. As it turns out, we had to pretty much disassemble the entire dash to be able to wire the EDFC uint up. We drilled a hole through the bottom of the console storage compartment, ran the cut wires through, and soldered them back together behind the dash.

EDFC fits perfectly into the center console:

After:
A new stance!

6 Month review:

The 275/35/19 PS2's/HRE 840r setup rubs a little on the rear fender. I need to get them cut/rolled up. The EDFC functions flawlessly. The three presets are set to 1: all soft (daily driver), 2:soft front, stiff rear(super drifto!) and 3: all stiff (autocross, track).

I have not run the car hard yet, work sucks. Autocross is coming up in October. The soft setting on these coilovers is very similar to a Subaru WRX STi. Stiffer than stock, but comfortable in my opinion. Stiff setting is not daily-driver comfortable, every bump on the road is felt. The car feels like it is glued to on-off ramps. I always drive with the VDC off. Drifting the tail out and recovering is very predictible. I am very impressed with the system. Of course friends love the "cool factor" of being able to adjust the ride on the fly.

Negatives: The only negative besides the minor tire rubbing (my fault!) is that the EDFC unit gets hot. It has never overheated or malfunctioned, but it is hot to the touch after an hour or so. In its defense, I put it in a small confined space. No problems though, just something to note.

Forgot to mention that on the soft setting, the suspension passes the "girlfriend" test.

For the rear shocks, you can just enlarge the hole that is at the top of the shock tower with a drill, then fit the EDFC wire and connector through.

I also find the EDFC unit gets quite hot. I have mine in the ashtray and leve it open when driving so it stays a little cool. You can feel the heat on your hand when it's resting on the shifter.

We thought about that Darth but decided to cut wires instead of chopping the body. With the exception of the small wire hole in the bottom of the EDFC compartment, everything can be returned to 100% stock if needed. Two routes to the same result, I guess.
